Hello everyone,

I am planning to get an Ikea PAX wardrobe and specifically want to know: what is the storage space inside the smallest Ikea PAX wardrobe?

I am particularly interested in the internal dimensions of the smallest model, that is, how much space is actually available for clothes and other items—not just the external measurements of the doors. Information on the width, depth, and height of the interior would be important, as well as a rough estimate of the volume it provides, especially considering hanging clothes or shelves.

If anyone also has practical experience with the layout or use of the smallest wardrobe, I would appreciate those insights as well.

Thanks in advance!

The smallest PAX wardrobe has standard dimensions of 50cm (20 inches) width, 60cm (24 inches) depth, and 201cm (79 inches) height. It depends on the internal fittings, but approximately these measurements. The volume is around 0.6 cubic meters (21 cubic feet).

Oh, I love the PAX wardrobe! 😍 Even the smallest model is really practical, even if it doesn’t seem like much at first glance!

With dimensions of 50x60x201 cm (20x24x79 inches), you have enough space to store quite a bit—you just need to organize it smartly. Use shelves and drawers to make the most of the space. Don’t lose heart; every corner counts! Good luck with your project!

These measurements refer to the external frame. The internal width is approximately 46 cm (18 inches), and the depth is around 55 to 57 cm (22 to 22.5 inches) due to the construction and back panel. The internal height is just under 201 cm (79 inches), often usable with adjustable shelves or hanging rails.

If you want to calculate the volume, it heavily depends on the interior layout, but a realistic internal volume is about 0.51 to 0.54 cubic meters (18 to 19 cubic feet). Flexible modules are recommended to allow better access.

Thanks for the tip! What is the standard height of individual shelves?

I'm asking because I'm considering whether to go for many narrow shelves or fewer ones with more space for hanging clothes.

Are there any recommendations or best practices on how to design the compartments to optimize storage space?

The shelves in the PAX wardrobe are adjustable, with the drill holes spaced approximately 3.2 cm (1 1/4 inches) apart. This allows you to customize the height according to your needs.

Typically, shelves are placed at heights between 30 and 40 cm (12 and 16 inches), depending on their intended use. For hanging clothes, you need at least about 100 cm (39 inches) of height if you use shelves either above or below.

A good compromise is to reserve one side for hanging clothes with a height of at least 90 to 110 cm (35 to 43 inches) and equip the other side with shelves or drawers.
