Hello IKEA fans,

Does anyone here happen to have installed the waste separation system from IKEA in a tall Maximera drawer and can tell me how much total height space it requires?

I’m not sure if it will fit under my sink (I currently have about 37cm (15 inches) of height available and could potentially gain around 3cm (1 inch) by shortening the drain hose).

Thanks,
Werner

Hello, in case no one can measure it, the trash bins are 32.3 cm (13 inches) high. Add the height of the bottom of the MAXIMERA drawer to get the total height from the cabinet floor. In the image below, you can also see that it is a few centimeters lower than the 40 cm (16 inches) drawer front:

I took some measurements:

From the bottom edge of the drawer up to and including the trash bin lid = 34 cm (13 inches).
Between the bottom edge of the drawer and the cabinet floor is 1 cm (0.4 inches).

In our case, the trap was hitting the back right drawer, so we bought a slightly shorter bin for the back right side, which fits perfectly in terms of size otherwise:

Blue plastic trash bin with lid and handles.

But with 37 cm (14.5 inches) below the trap, you shouldn’t have any problems.

Hello Juliette,

Thank you very much for remeasuring! I shortened the hose slightly yesterday and gained another 2-3cm (about 1 inch), so I now have just under 40cm (about 16 inches) in height. That should be enough.

I’ll visit IKEA again over the weekend!

Best regards and have a great week,
Werner
