ᐅ Replacing old cabinet fronts with new ones

Hello,

According to the IKEA local staff, my question has been partially answered but not in enough detail. Perhaps someone here has relevant experience and can share any tricks that might be necessary, if there are any.

In our kitchen, model Faktum with Härlig doors, some doors need to be replaced due to damage caused by swollen laminate. Whether this qualifies as a warranty case is not the topic here.

What I want to know is:
Can the Härlig doors be replaced with doors from a newer series? For example, HÄGGEBY or Veddinge.

From what I’ve heard, adjustments are necessary. What exactly are the issues?
Can these be handled with basic carpentry skills and the right tools? Or are the new hinge holes placed so close to the old ones that they overlap?

As far as I can tell, the problem is not due to the external dimensions.

Thanks for any helpful advice.

Yes, they are 2mm wider. The fronts are still 3mm narrower than the carcass.

Then all the information in the catalog or on the internet would be incorrect.

Is it possible for you to explain or correct your statement?
Thank you

because it’s you.

What exactly are you trying to prove with this?
You are actually showing that your claim—that the Metod cabinets are wider than the FAKTUM units—is incorrect.
Metod cabinets are not wider than, for example, 600mm (24 inches), nor are FAKTUM units narrower than the nominal dimension, such as 600mm (24 inches).

I don’t understand why you are referring to a foreign Ikea website for this.
That won’t help you, since it only lists measurements like 600mm (24 inches), not smaller, as you suggested.

Maybe you should try measuring them yourself?

Maybe you should read the links before complaining:

Assembled size
Min. width: 59.8 cm (24 inches)
Max. width: 59.9 cm (24 inches)
Depth: 58 cm (23 inches)
Height: 70 cm (28 inches)

Perhaps one should read the links before complaining:

Where is there a complaint here?
Although one would actually be justified.

What is the point of playing with the measurements that only represent manufacturing tolerances?
You can read exactly the same in this foreign IKEA house for the other types of cabinets.

So apples are being compared to oranges.
From this, you cannot conclude that the new cabinet types are 3mm (0.1 inches) larger than the old cabinets, for example, those that are 600mm (24 inches) wide.

I believe the claim referring to the (exact) nominal dimension was lost sight of at some point.
The new cabinets are also never wider than the nominal dimension.
Therefore, the "calculation" that the doors no longer fit because they would collide with the neighbor is irrelevant.
That was what my inquiry was about,
which unnecessarily was then also interpreted as a complaint.

I also asked if anyone has experience with the problem.
Apparently not.

Hello West Coast,
IKEA expert is right. You should measure your Faktum cabinets. The easiest way is to get a cheap Metod door and just try it out. The old Faktum series, to be exact, for a 60 cm (24 inch) cabinet was actually only 598 mm (23.5 inches) wide. This dimension resulted from the bottom width of 561.5 mm (22.1 inches) plus 2 times the side panel thickness of 18 mm (0.7 inches). The tolerances for both width and length must not be 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) less or 0.2 mm (0.008 inches) more. It’s the same with the Metod series; the bottom is now exactly 564 mm (22.2 inches) wide. IKEA is very precise about this, no matter in which country the carcasses are produced. The guidelines are the same for every manufacturer. If you are wondering how I know this: I work at a company that manufactures Metod and Pax, and we are regularly trained to keep the quality as high as possible. IKEA sets this standard very high for all, whether abroad or like us in Germany.
