Hello everyone,

I have started a small project and want to retrofit the existing drawers of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with a soft-close function. Currently, the drawers do not have any damping, and I feel that the daily slamming could gradually damage them over time.

My question to you is: Is there a simple and quick way to add a soft-close function to Ikea Metod drawers without having to replace the entire drawer slide?

Has anyone had experience with specific retrofit kits or can offer tips on how to install them without professional tools? What about the cost and durability of these retrofit systems?

I look forward to your detailed advice and instructions!

The simplest option is to buy complete Metod soft-close runners and replace the old ones.

Thanks for the information!

To add: Can anyone say if the soft-close slides allow for adjusting the individual damping? Or is the function always with the same resistance?

I ask because I imagine that thicker or heavier drawers might require a different damping than the standard size.

The standard Metod soft-close slides are not adjustable; the damping is preset at the factory.

If you want adjustable damping, you would need to use special dampers from third-party suppliers that are installed additionally.

However, most users rely on the standardized Ikea solutions because they are well coordinated and easy to install. For heavy drawers, Ikea also offers stronger variants.

A small tip: I cleaned the rails once before installation and sprayed some silicone lubricant on them. It makes closing much smoother.

Good to know, thanks for the tip!

I got the matching soft-close slides last week and plan to install them soon. Hopefully, they work as well as yours.
