Hello everyone,

I recently bought an IKEA PLATSA system for a wall unit and am thinking about how to make the handles both attractive and practical. The handles that come with it are often quite simple and unfortunately not very elegant. Do you have any tips or tricks for attaching stylish handles to IKEA PLATSA furniture? Perhaps you have experience with alternative handles, mounting options, or even DIY solutions that enhance the appearance of the system? I am especially interested in a solution that is both functional and visually appealing, without being too expensive or complicated. Thanks for your suggestions!

Hello everyone,

I wanted to add that with the Platsa system, you can also consider recessed handles integrated as profiles. This gives your furniture a very modern look and works well if you prefer not to have protruding handles.

If anyone is unsure: always install handles at a height or position that is ergonomically best suited, usually in the middle or slightly lower on the doors, depending on how they will be used.

Additionally, IKEA sometimes offers third-party handles that fit the exact same hole spacing. These often provide a wider range of design options.

Feel free to ask if you need any tips on installation!

I really appreciate how many helpful suggestions are being shared here! Especially with IKEA furniture, it often turns out that great looks can be achieved with small modifications. In my experience, leather handles and metal strips create very different atmospheres—so think about which suits your space better, Mike.

From the way you’ve phrased your question, I can tell you’re consciously looking for an elegant but practical solution. I have also experimented with magnetic handles that don’t require drilling—this could be another interesting option if you’re open to trying something new.

Yes, that's true! It’s great to see everyone contributing. I wanted to add that there are also handle-less door mechanisms with push-to-open functionality, in case anyone wants to explore minimalism further. That idea attracted me at first, but I sometimes find handles more practical for everyday use. I’m sure everyone will find their own solution.

Looking forward to seeing what Mike decides!

Specifically: The best method is to measure the hole spacing accurately, then buy metal handles of the correct length at a hardware store and screw them in securely. This is the quickest and most reliable way.
