Hi, I want to build a DJ table based on a description I found on the internet using:
- 2 EXPEDIT
- 4 Capita (straight)
- 2 Capita (angled)
- 1 LACK (large)
- 1 LACK (small)

However, I am building it slightly differently than in the picture (I’m not using legs on the whole unit but will place it directly on the floor. For that, I’m using the straight Capita legs on the large LACK and the angled Capita legs only on the small LACK, which will hold the speakers).
Now, I want to screw the straight Capita legs onto the bottom of the large LACK.
BUT, will it hold together?
The legs are attached with only four small screws to the LACK, and the LACK has very thin outer walls (it’s hollow, right? Or is it filled with foam or something like that?).
I hope you can provide me with more information!
Best regards, Bene

Both Expedit and Lack have only a thin layer of particleboard and are filled inside with a paper honeycomb core. Since your speakers probably have a certain weight, I don’t think they will hold up. The only idea I have is to increase the surface area where you place the Capita brackets. That means using a metal plate or wood on top of the Expedit and under the Lack shelf, and then placing or sandwiching the Capitas in between. Aesthetically, well... not great, but it might be the only way to achieve stability.
Maybe someone else has an idea?

IKEA-Experte6 Oct 2012 22:02Do I understand correctly that you simply want to place the large Lack table with Capita legs on the Expedit and attach the smaller Lack table to it with Capita bracket mounts, on which the speakers will stand?
That would also be unsafe with solid boards.

Do I understand correctly that you just want to place the large LACK with CAPITA legs on the Expedit and attach the small LACK to it using CAPITA console brackets on which speakers will stand? That would be too unstable even with solid boards.Well, I planned to use 4 straight CAPITA legs attached underneath the large LACK, secured on both sides with very strong double-sided tape. Then, on top of the large LACK, I would place the angled CAPITA legs, where the small LACK with the speakers would be placed, also secured again with tape (the tape won’t be visible as it will be covered).
I also considered gluing wooden boards to the undersides and drilling screws through the wooden boards and the LACK (the wooden boards serve to enlarge the outer walls of the LACK so the screws hold better).
By the way, I don’t actually need to drill into the EXPEDIT shelf because I’m attaching the legs with adhesive (the legs cannot be drilled into from below), and theoretically, the LACK should hold on the 4 legs by itself without tape (gravity should be enough; they even displayed something like this at IKEA). I’m using the tape mainly to secure the angled CAPITA legs and the small LACK on top.
But I would still welcome more ideas.
Best regards, Bene

IKEA-Experte7 Oct 2012 19:34I wouldn’t rely on tape for this. The paint weighs almost nothing, and when you attach a load with the brackets, the center of gravity can quickly move outside the base area. Even if the tape holds well, I wouldn’t trust the paint to stick to the paint. It’s better to remove the plastic feet from the Capita feet, drill a hole through them, and attach the feet with a machine screw, like with the bracket mounts. However, I would definitely prefer significantly larger washers instead of the small washers that come with the bracket mounts for this kind of custom work.

Even just skimming through your very detailed description makes me lose interest in dealing with it. And I guarantee you, I’m not the only one who feels this way.
