Dear Forum,
We have been silent readers for some time and have now reached the point where a first draft has been created for our building project (planned start spring 2018). Before we proceed with the planning, we would appreciate any tips and suggestions regarding the design. Thank you very much!

Why does the design look like it does now?

A French-door refrigerator is roughly the size of a side-by-side fridge, but with a key difference: instead of being divided vertically, it is divided horizontally. There are different models available, typically with two doors on top that open to a spacious refrigerator section, which is also well-suited for storing large trays. Below is the freezer section, which can either have doors with internal drawers (as is common in many German refrigerators) or be designed as one or two large pull-out drawers.

The main advantage of these refrigerators is that you don’t have to bend all the way down to access some vegetables, and you can also fit bulky items like baking sheets more easily. In some side-by-side refrigerators, you can’t even fit a frozen pizza diagonally in the freezer because these units tend to be quite narrow.

Ah yes, thanks for the explanation.

I probably blocked out both aspects because I consider them nonsense. In the “Sendung mit der Maus” show, there is a machine where the mouse puts in ingredients, and the elephant bakes a cake inside the machine. When the cake is ready, a flap for the cake and a little door for the elephant open, and they can eat.

As a cartoon, it’s funny, but for a real kitchen, that wouldn’t be my design ideal.

The “advantage” of Ollinwann is just the concentrated failure time :-(

@11ant Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed by the heat or something?

So we have reconsidered the really useful tips. The result is swapping the guest room and the home office, which enlarges the dining area. Changing the kitchen layout to an L-shape. Although we originally didn’t want a corner, we probably have no other option (or do you have another idea?) The sliding door between the kitchen and dining room is now correctly shown as a passageway.
What do you think?

Why don’t you want a corner?
