Hello everyone,

My house construction planning is almost complete, and now some important "details" remain. It’s about the ceiling spotlights and the staircase lighting. Our builder needs to know soon what kind of ceiling spotlights we want to install (diameter of the opening) so that he can order the concrete ceiling including the recess accordingly.

When I look online, there are countless options, with prices varying significantly. Do you have any recommendations? The ceiling and wall lighting should, of course, visually match each other.

Thank you in advance

If not 60 cm (24 inches), what distance works well?

We chose 40 cm (16 inches). Above the countertop, the distance between the spots (6 watts) in our setup is slightly less than 80 cm (31 inches). This provides very good lighting. You don’t cast your own shadow on the work surface, as it is always lit from at least two sides, plus the indirect light reflected off the wall.

We also have lights under the wall cabinets, but I don’t like working there that much, so for me, they’re more decorative. However, we have over 9 meters (30 feet) of countertop, most of which is unobstructed.

The kitchen has been revised again. In the area of the kitchen without cabinets, a nice glass shelf will be installed, with the appropriate under-countertop lighting mounted underneath. I also still need to come up with something attractive for the left and right sides next to the cooktop.

What about the hallway now? Is this layout completely unsuitable? Would it be better to stagger it instead of arranging it in a row?

I just wanted a recommendation for recessed frames and ended up reading through 4 pages.

But I realize people here want to know more about the actual planning.

So, the plan is basically this: In the hallway, the spots will be recessed centrally into the ceiling, spaced about 70–80cm (28–31 inches) apart. The LED spots are from activled and have a beam angle of 120 degrees.

In the guest bathroom, there will be 2 spots also recessed centrally into the ceiling, plus an additional wall light above the mirror. Without the wall light, when looking into the mirror, you'd have no light, since the ceiling lighting mainly illuminates the back of the head.

In the kitchen, there will be 3 recessed spots centered in the ceiling. For worktop lighting, separate lights will be installed under the wall cabinets. Over the kitchen island, there is a range hood that also has its own separate light. Only on the left side by the sink are no wall cabinets, so there might be some issues with brightness there, hmm.

Attached is my ground floor plan.

How did you finally implement the lighting, especially in the living and dining area? Thanks
