Hello, I am currently planning the mounting of my new IKEA Faktum wall cabinets and have realized with dismay that the back panel of these cabinets is flush with the side panels. Other manufacturers design the back panel recessed, allowing cables for under-cabinet lighting to be routed there. Although IKEA also offers under-cabinet lighting systems, I am puzzled about how the supply cables are supposed to be routed under the wall cabinets. Has anyone found a good solution for this?

IKEA-Experte8 Dec 2013 14:19After I once had mold stains on the back panels of some wall cabinets, I installed them with about a 1cm (0.4 inch) gap from the wall by placing wooden shims with holes onto the screws before hanging the cabinets.
With Metod, this problem will no longer occur.

But now everything will be fine

I have installed matching side panels on the upper cabinets—on the sides, bottom, and top. This not only improves the overall appearance of the cabinets, but also provides a convenient space to run the cables for the countertop lighting without any issues.
For this, I had a suitable groove milled (using a router) or cut (using a circular saw) into the back of the side panels by a local hardware store with an attached woodworking shop. With a width of about 15mm (0.6 inches) and a depth of around 5mm (0.2 inches), there is enough space to neatly hide plenty of LED wiring completely out of sight.
