Hello everyone, I bought the Billy shelf from IKEA, but the instructions are quite confusing and some steps seem unclear to me. I’m especially unsure about the correct placement of the back panel and how to properly install the shelves to ensure they remain stable. Are there any specific tips on what to pay attention to during assembly to avoid mistakes? I don’t want the shelf to end up wobbly or with the back panel not fitting correctly. Thanks for your help!

The most important thing is to align the back panel precisely and to initially leave all screws loose so you can make fine adjustments later. This will make the shelf more stable.

Make sure that the metal pins on the shelves are fully and properly inserted straight into the holes. Otherwise, they will wobble and not hold securely.

That’s a good point! Could you briefly explain how you align the back panel before tightening the screws? Are there any tips or tools you use?

I will check that carefully. Do you have experience whether it’s better to use a spirit level to ensure the shelves are perfectly level?

It is best to align the back panel by laying the shelf on the floor and positioning the back panel flush before loosely fastening the screws. After that, the shelf will stand upright. A spirit level is helpful but not essential.

It’s great to see such good cooperation here! 🙂 I think if you lean the back panel slightly and just loosely screw in a few screws at first, you can easily align everything perfectly and then end up with a very stable shelving unit! 🙂 Good luck, you’ve got this!
