assamerer9 Dec 2015 09:00Hello
we are currently considering buying about 7-year-old frosted glass sliding doors and purchasing a new cabinet frame to go with them.
a) In my opinion, this should work – or do you see it differently?
b) Are there dampers available for the old doors?
Thanks & best regards

IKEA-Experte9 Dec 2015 19:32Pax STORDAL, right? If you buy the carcasses in the correct size, then the door will fit.
Dampers were not available back then, and the current one probably won't fit. You will have to try it out. Unlike dampers for pull-outs with soft close, I consider the KOMPLEMENT snap fitting for the sliding doors completely unnecessary.

assamerer10 Dec 2015 09:15mh don’t know what they are called. I’m definitely paying attention to the cabinet height! It would be for pickup directly in the neighboring town.
I’m still hesitating about the quality of Pax.
My 2.20m (7 feet 3 inches) high Pax unit from 1997 is still solid and stable even after the third move. I can’t say if the new series can achieve the same. And since I still have the old folding doors, I probably won’t be able to use 99% of the current accessories – except for the shelves, the rod, and the expensive Komplement drawer insert in 75cm (30 inches).

IKEA-Experte10 Dec 2015 16:45PAX was already 236 cm (93 inches) or 201 cm (79 inches) tall back then.
You might need to be careful with the cabinet width to ensure it matches the doors.
In 1997, the particleboard was probably still bonded with formaldehyde. Whether stability was also related to the formaldehyde content is unclear. In any case, the chances of being able to purchase a replacement cabinet are likely higher than with other manufacturers.

assamerer10 Dec 2015 17:46Not exactly – in 1997, the 2.2m (7 feet 3 inches) Pax was available. A perfect size!
For the new frame, we would buy the 75cm (30 inches) wide units (4x 75cm) and hang the doors on them.

assamerer10 Dec 2015 18:12Unfortunately, you are misinformed – there were also Pax units with a height of 2.20m (7.2 feet).
I will look for the catalog over the weekend.
Thanks for the information about the carcasses – so that means I will have to revise my plans for the cabinets.
