Hello dear community,
I’m looking for help from you because I’m starting to get frustrated.
I have nearly finished assembling the kitchen; only the sink and siphon are left to install. However, I had already connected the dishwasher to the loosely hanging siphon a week earlier and tested it, which worked fine.
Since I connected the sink along with the siphon and overflow, the water stays in the sink basin, and the dishwasher also drains into the sink. The water fills the siphon but does not drain through the main waste pipe; instead, it goes into the overflow.
A plumber checked today and ruled out a clogged pipe or incorrect assembly.
Does anyone know this problem and can help me “remotely”?
Regards,
Mateusz

Alter Schwede13 Mar 2011 12:38Hello Mateusz,
I think you have a physical issue here.
The dishwasher wastewater will always take the easiest path to drain.
If that path is the sink, then the trap isn’t positioned deep enough, or the drain connection in the wall is too high—
or both.
In either case, this means water is backing up in the trap and being pushed upwards (simply put, there isn’t enough slope).
You might want to take a picture of the area under the sink and share it here online.
That way, it could be easier to see what’s going on.

Could it be because the dishwasher is connected at the top?
I have always connected them to the side connections in my kitchens.
And due to space constraints, it sometimes didn’t look nearly as neatly installed as in the photo.

Guter Junge10 Dec 2011 18:45Hello Mateusz,
Have you solved the problem?
I’m experiencing exactly the same issue right now. With the sink properly connected, no water drains. If the sink is not connected, water flows through the drain pipe in the wall without any problems. The sink itself also drains water properly—as long as it is NOT connected. Somehow, it prevents the water from draining—that’s almost like magic. Did you remove the sink? I’m about to do that...

Nils

Hello IKEA friends,
Is there a solution by now? I have exactly the same problem. A blockage can be ruled out. As soon as the Atlant trap is connected, the water doesn’t drain anymore. The connection was done by an IKEA service partner. Whether the water is drained from the sink or the dishwasher is pumping out, the water drains only very slowly and collects in the sink. I have already opened everything; no dirt or blockage can be found. It sounds like there is a vacuum in the system, it gurgles and bubbles, but it doesn’t drain. Everything is properly connected (by the IKEA service partner). Does anyone have an idea?
Otherwise, I’m going to do like Nils and tear this thing out...
Many thanks and best regards!
