ᐅ How to Install and Adjust Ikea METOD Cabinet Doors Quietly and Precisely

Hello everyone, I recently purchased METOD kitchen fronts from Ikea and am now facing the challenge of mounting the doors so that they close completely silently and are optimally aligned. My previous attempts unfortunately always ended with a slight scraping noise when closing or doors that didn’t sit entirely flush.
I am particularly interested in how to best adjust the different types of hinges (especially those with built-in dampers) so that you don’t have to readjust them later on. Is there a practical, proven guide or any tips on how to mount the doors smoothly and almost noiselessly?
Maybe some of you have more experience with this series and have been able to solve or at least greatly improve these exact issues? I’m looking forward to your suggestions and support!

For hinge positioning: The pre-drilled holes on METOD cabinets are precise and standardized. It is important that the hinges lie completely flat against the cabinet side. To ensure distortion-free installation, make sure that
- all cabinet parts are mounted flush and at right angles
- the hinges are installed straight, not at an angle
- screws are tightened evenly and firmly (but without overtightening)
Additionally, unintended screwing that causes the cabinet to tilt or warp will later result in gaps and noise when closing.
The integrated dampers also ensure quiet operation, but as mentioned, they only work properly if the hinge is fully engaged and correctly adjusted. After screwing in, adjustment screws should be handled carefully and precisely – screws that are too loose can cause wobbling marks, while screws tightened too much prevent movement during adjustment.
In conclusion: Careful adherence to the installation sequence and thorough checking of all levels are essential.

I can completely understand how frustrating it can be when you spend so much time on installation and the doors still don’t close perfectly. It can feel a bit discouraging, especially if you value quality and quiet operation.
That said, I would recommend taking short breaks when the process gets tough. Sometimes a bit of fresh energy helps improve the sensitivity required for fine adjustments. The tips shared here are really great—you’re on the right track!
I also want to mention that it’s quite normal to readjust the doors after they have been in use for a while, as materials and hinges may slightly settle. This is not a malfunction but a normal part of the process.
So: keep going and stay motivated! Your kitchen will turn out great in the end—the journey just might require some patience.

Hey, I just wanted to quickly say that I’m really impressed with how quietly the METOD doors run after a bit of fine-tuning! 😄
At first, I noticed a slight rubbing sound and thought it would never go away. Your tips here really helped me use the adjustment screws methodically instead of just turning them randomly.
My top advice is not to tighten the doors all the way at once, but rather to tighten them little by little and keep closing the doors in between. And don’t forget: the dampers need to fully click into place – sometimes you’ll hear a click if they’re not fully engaged yet!
I’m planning to get some silicone spray this evening to maybe improve things even more. It’s great that there’s such helpful advice in the forum!

My ultimate tip is not to screw the doors in completely at once, but rather to tighten them step by step and to close them regularly in between. That sounds very reasonable and aligns with my current approach. I have noticed that fully tightening the screws at once significantly limits adjustability.
How do you handle maintenance of the dampers? Is there anything that should be avoided? Specifically, do silicone spray or other substances improve the dampers’ performance or could they potentially cause damage?
In general, I find that this topic is quite complex, especially when considering the lifespan and quiet operation of the hinges.
Hey everyone, I really appreciate how patiently you’re approaching this topic! 😊 For those of you who, like me, sometimes create a little living room symphony with squeaking doors: a little “screw dance” before closing is definitely worth it!
And honestly, adjusting METOD hinges is almost like hand yoga!
Jokes aside: a small amount of silicone spray on the hinge pins can help, but please apply it very lightly and avoid spraying it directly on the damper. Otherwise, it might slip.
Loosely tightened screws are your friend! And who hasn’t ever over-tightened with extra force? That usually backfires, I promise.

A brief update from me, as I recently rechecked all the METOD doors: The correct order of adjustments (side, height, depth) not only ensures even gaps but also prevents the doors from warping or making noises over time.
Regarding this question: It makes sense to always adjust the side first so the doors sit perfectly centered. Then correct the height so the doors are aligned evenly at the top and bottom edges. Finally, adjust the depth so the doors close flush without any overlap.
If you experience sticking, also check if the cabinet carcass is level. Sometimes what seems like installation debris causing noise is actually due to the entire structure being slightly tilted.
Also, regularly check and, if necessary, tighten the hinge screws; this helps prevent problems with long-term use.

Has anyone already had experience with the best sequence for performing the three adjustments one after another?
