Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into equipping my new Ikea Platsa wardrobe system with suitable lighting and wondering if there are any lighting kits specifically designed for the Platsa series that can be easily integrated.

It is important for me to find flexible solutions that not only look good but are also technically compatible in terms of dimensions and mounting.

Has anyone had experience with lighting specifically for Platsa? Which suppliers or products do you recommend, and are there any kits designed directly for Platsa to minimize installation effort and adjustments?

I look forward to your answers and tips!

A few weeks ago, I added LEDs to my Platsa that I happened to find at a hardware store for the cabinet. Just peeled off the adhesive backing, stuck them on, and voilà – a little lighting magic.

That sounds great! I can definitely confirm your description. 🙂

I also used LEDs for my Platsa, but made sure to choose dimmable ones since adjusting the brightness depending on the time of day works better.

It’s important to keep the power connection easily accessible, especially if you want to turn the lights off frequently.

Do you have any experience with motion sensors? That could really boost convenience even more.

I can recommend motion sensors, especially very practical at night.

Simply buy them to match 12V LED strips.

Installation and connection are usually very easy.

Ikea does not offer dedicated lighting sets for Platsa.

Thank you for the helpful information, tra_nina. That confirms my previous impression that I will need to rely on third-party solutions.

The idea of motion sensors makes sense to me as well. Are there any technical or installation limitations specifically for Platsa? For example, regarding the small back panel structures or the smooth surfaces?

And what about expanding the lighting later on? Are 12V systems flexible enough for that?

Yes, that's a good point. Platsa has modular back panels and not always continuous surfaces. This means that when installing motion sensors or cables, you should ensure that the components are not obstructed and that you have access points.

Adhesive strips for LEDs work well on the smooth surfaces of the back panels or side panels.

12V systems are very flexible – you can add more LED strips at any time as long as your power supply provides enough capacity.

Motion sensors often come in small, compact designs that can be installed discreetly. Wiring needs to be well planned in advance, possibly including extensions.

If you are unsure during installation, it helps to plan the position of the motion sensor, power supply, and LED strips beforehand with a sketch.
