bonarHello everyone,
I am currently looking into equipping my new Ikea Platsa wardrobe system with suitable lighting and wondering if there are any lighting kits specifically designed for the Platsa series that can be easily integrated.
It is important for me to find flexible solutions that not only look good but are also technically compatible in terms of dimensions and mounting.
Has anyone had experience with lighting specifically for Platsa? Which suppliers or products do you recommend, and are there any kits designed directly for Platsa to minimize installation effort and adjustments?
I look forward to your answers and tips!

Hello bonar,
There is no official lighting set offered by Ikea specifically designed for the Platsa series. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t good alternatives.
Many users install LED cabinet lights using self-adhesive LED strips or modules, which can be easily mounted inside the Platsa cabinets.
It is important to consider the power supply and cable management, as Platsa cabinets often have various module combinations and back panels that are sometimes not continuous.
You can also use sensor lights if you want automatic lighting that turns on when the door opens.
If you want a specific color of lighting or particularly bright illumination, I can provide more targeted product recommendations.

Good brightness is my top priority, ideally cool white, as it helps me see the contents of the shelves more clearly. Colored LEDs are not really important to me at first.
It is also important that installation is reasonably straightforward for amateurs—no need to hide too many cables, preferably a plug-in power supply, and no complicated wiring.
Are there sets that you can simply cut to size and insert without soldering? And what about mounting— is adhesive sufficient, or have screws or alternative fasteners proven to be more reliable?
I can only summarize briefly and clearly here:
- Ikea does not offer dedicated lighting sets for Platsa.
- Alternatively, LED strips with 12V or 24V power supply are recommended, as they can be easily cut and connected to plug-in power adapters.
- The adhesive tape on LED strips is usually strong enough, but only on smooth, dust-free surfaces.
- If you want long-term stability without the risk of detachment, mounting clips or small screws are preferable.
- For plug-in power adapters, it is advisable to plan the cable routing carefully because Platsa modules with connection points and back panels are not always continuous.
In general, there are many third-party solutions that can fit perfectly if you pay attention to the dimensions and power type.

Nice question, I have a funny story to share 😄
A few weeks ago, I added LEDs to my Platsa that I happened to find at a hardware store for the cabinet. Just peeled off the adhesive backing, stuck them inside, and boom – a little lighting magic.
Sure, it’s not a professional set, but the effect is fantastic, especially at night when you just need to find something quickly.
Exactly, that’s my advice: just give it a try, a DIY like this is also kind of fun, almost like a mini project. And stick with daylight white for the color, it looks great! 😎

I’m not aware of any direct sets for Platsa. But you can use regular LED strips and attach them with suitable adhesive tape or clips.
