Hello everyone,

I have a very specific question regarding the IKEA Kallax system, specifically about the removable baskets that are often used there. I’ve noticed that the baskets sometimes slide out of the shelf too easily, which is especially annoying when they are filled with some weight or when there are children in the household.

That’s why I wanted to ask the community: Are there practical stops or other simple solutions for the Kallax baskets that prevent them from slipping out too easily and unintentionally?

I’m not talking about fully secure locks, but rather small holding elements that help prevent accidental falls. Maybe someone knows of modified shelves or special accessories designed specifically for this issue.

I’m curious to hear your experiences and tips. Thanks in advance!

A technical idea: small metal brackets could be installed inside the Kallax shelf to gently slow down the basket when pulling it out.

This increases friction and prevents sudden falling out, but hardly stresses the structure if properly mounted.

If you have some DIY skills, you can create a very discreet modification that significantly improves usability.

Interesting point, narDietmar. However, I would criticize that such modifications reduce the flexibility that the Kallax actually offers.

In my opinion, the issue with the drawers sliding out too easily should be better solved by specially designed inserts that include an integrated stop function.

I wonder if IKEA might be planning something here, as this problem seems to occur frequently. Has anyone heard about any new releases or accessories?

I also think it is relevant whether a compromise is made in product development between durability, functionality, and ease of use.

That could indeed be mechanically very effective. However, I’m curious whether there might be a risk of damaging the edges of the basket or shelf, especially with frequent removal.

I definitely see potential there as well. Are there any experiences with third-party products specifically designed with stop mechanisms for Kallax baskets?

After all, I don’t want to do too much DIY; I’m looking for a fairly neat, permanent solution.

Some time ago, I glued rubberized glides onto the surface of the baskets. This has the effect that the baskets no longer slide out easily, without needing to make significant changes to the construction.

They are usually inexpensive and easy to install. A practical mini solution.

A small addition: magnetic catches can also be used.

Ideally, one magnet is attached to the cabinet body, and another to the basket, so they hold firmly but the baskets can still be easily removed when needed.

I tried this with a sideboard, and it works very well. It could also be adapted for Kallax units.

Great discussion here, thanks to everyone involved! To wrap up, here is a brief summary of my findings:

- There are no official stoppers from IKEA for Kallax baskets.
- DIY solutions like rubber bumpers, felt pads, silicone plugs, or magnetic stoppers work well.
- Small mechanical interventions, such as metal brackets or door dampers, can help but need to be implemented carefully.
- Various hook-and-loop fastener solutions provide some hold but are not the most stable option.
- Specially designed baskets with integrated stoppers from third-party suppliers are unfortunately rare; this could be a useful area for development.

I will probably experiment with rubber bumpers and silicone plugs, as they are reversible and simple.

If anyone has further ideas or recommendations for sources, please share! Thanks again to everyone, this has been very helpful 🙂
