Hello everyone, I recently bought a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and now need replacement fittings for some of the shelves, as they were damaged during the move. My question to the community is: Where can I purchase KALLAX fittings if I don’t want to order directly from IKEA or if they are out of stock there? Are there alternative suppliers, specialist retailers, or specific online shops that offer these exact fitting parts? I appreciate any tips, especially those that ensure both quality and precise fit.
The KALLAX shelves do indeed use fittings that are specifically designed to match the design and thickness of the panels. These are often concealed dowels or special wood connectors that are not necessarily standardized.
If original replacement parts are not available, I would recommend looking for products in the furniture fittings sector with similar dimensions. However, be sure to pay close attention to load capacity and material quality, as the stability of the shelving unit could otherwise be compromised.
My advice: Measure the defective fitting precisely and compare the dimensions with offerings from specialized fitting suppliers or online platforms for furniture accessories. This way, you are more likely to find a suitable alternative.

If you want to understand the technical details: The KALLAX fittings often use a special cam-lock system that IKEA applies in many of its products. These cam locks usually have a diameter of about 15 mm (0.6 inches) and require matching dowels – the combination ensures a strong and secure connection.
If you choose an alternative, make sure the cam system fits precisely, as otherwise the connection strength will be compromised.
Many online stores selling furniture fittings offer these cam locks separately, as well as replacement dowels. It is worth searching with exact details of your KALLAX model.
Could you specify which type of fitting is exactly defective? For example, a shelf support wire, cam lock, or frame connector?

It concerns the metal support rails for the shelves – the small fittings that are attached to the inside of the side walls and hold the shelf. The packaging doesn’t specify a particular name, only an article number on the IKEA sticker, which I unfortunately could not find online anymore.
Ah, the shelf fittings – these are often simple but very precise metal brackets or retaining clips that securely hold the board in place. 🙂
Since IKEA can be quite particular here, I used to solve it like this: I looked at popular online retailers that carry furniture fittings and found some DIY suppliers. While you won't find original KALLAX fittings there, they offer very sturdy and adaptable options that, with a bit of adjustment, fit really well.
My tip: Check out specialized stores like "Beschlag24" or "Möbelbeschläge-direkt." They have many different mounting brackets that you can order exactly to your measurements. If you’re handy, these fit the KALLAX system pretty well. And: Take the time to measure as precisely as possible – that really makes a difference. Good luck! 😉

These are the metal support rails for the shelvesHonestly – IKEA and spare parts are a never-ending story. If you ask informally, sometimes the answer is: "For that price, just buy a new shelving unit!"
I would say, why not simply find suitable brackets at the hardware store and install them with the right drill bit and screws?
These are basically simple metal parts, not high-tech components. For me, hunting for spare parts is often overcomplicated. So, if a quick and cost-effective solution is needed, just take standard brackets, drill the holes as needed, and you’re done.
I completely understand the frustration regarding replacement parts and would like to add the following:
If the original fittings are not available, it really helps to take precise measurements before purchasing—length, width, thickness, and mounting holes—so that alternatives will fit properly. With IKEA shelves, the material is often important as well, because some inexpensive metal brackets do not offer anywhere near the same load capacity.
You might also consider contacting local carpenters or cabinetmakers. Sometimes they produce custom replacement parts or can at least refer you to a reliable supplier.
If you want, I can also send you a few links to shops that offer a wide range of furniture fittings, including special shelf supports.
