Good morning everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe and wonder if there are any specific tools that noticeably simplify or even are necessary for the assembly process. I have assembled several pieces of furniture before, but Pax seems more complex due to its flexible built-in elements and customization options.

Which tools are truly useful for assembling it efficiently and without mistakes? Are standard tools like a cordless drill, spirit level, and hammer sufficient, or are there special tools that Ikea recommends or that have proven useful in practice?

I am also interested to know if there are any adapters or attachments that make screwing easier, as some fasteners appear very small and delicate.

I would appreciate any feedback and experiences!

Hello Erwingla42,

It's great that you're already thinking ahead before starting the assembly! 😎 For assembling a PAX wardrobe, you basically only need a good cordless screwdriver and a Phillips bit. However, I recommend having a screwdriver with a comfortable grip on hand in case some screws get stuck.

There isn’t a special PAX tool set from Ikea, but a small spirit level is definitely helpful to make sure the wardrobe is perfectly straight. Some people also swear by using a rubber mallet to gently tap parts into place without damaging the material.

If you run into trouble adjusting the doors during assembly, a door hinge adjustment tool can be useful. But for the basics, the tools you mentioned are absolutely sufficient! Good luck!

There are no special tools officially recommended by Ikea for assembling the PAX system. The assembly instructions are designed so that standard tools are sufficient.

The following tools are useful:
- Cordless drill with Phillips screwdriver bits
- Spirit level for alignment
- Rubber or regular hammer (for dowels and minor adjustments)
- Folding ruler or tape measure for precise measurement

Some users also make use of angle aids or small clamps to better secure components, especially when working with multiple people. Special assembly aids, such as exclusive PAX kits, are not necessary.

Exactly. A cordless drill plus a spirit level are sufficient. A hammer is only needed for dowels, nothing more.

I understand that assembling a PAX wardrobe can seem a bit intimidating, especially because of the many parts and the option to customize the wardrobe.

What helped me was a simple tip: When working in delicate areas, a small screwdriver with an ergonomic handle can make a difference. It gave me more control and reduced stress, particularly with the tiny screws on the hinges.

I also recommend organizing your workspace well (ample space, all parts sorted) and taking breaks in between. This helps you stay focused and avoid frustration.

A practical tip: There are bit sets specifically designed for furniture assembly that include not only standard screwdriver bits but also special hook or cam bits. These work very well with the screws and wall plugs provided with PAX.

A small magnetic bit holder for the screwdriver can also be helpful for handling small screws more easily. Additionally, I recommend using a screwdriver with an ergonomic handle for the final adjustments – this improves precision for delicate assembly points.
