Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to design my kitchen using IKEA Metod fronts, with a particular focus on their durability. Specifically, I am looking for recommendations or experiences regarding Metod fronts that have especially high scratch resistance.
I am especially interested in materials or specific front models that have proven to be robust in everyday use against mechanical wear, such as scratches caused by cooking utensils or cleaning.
Are there any tests, user experiences, or general advice on which fronts are particularly scratch-resistant?
Thank you in advance!

As mentioned before, film is king when it comes to scratch resistance đ€.
I used to have high-gloss paint, and you could see every little scratch, which gets annoying over time. Since I switched to matte film fronts, things have been much more relaxed, and I havenât had a single scratch that didnât somehow survive.

Thanks for the assessments so far!
Although foil fronts offer excellent scratch resistance, Iâm also interested in practical experience with different surface textures.
Are there differences between matte and satin-matte foils or between foils made from different types of plastic used in IKEA Metod?
And what about their susceptibility to heat exposure, which can occur nearby during cooking?
I want the fronts to be as durable as possible without quickly being affected by scratches or heat.

Very good question!
Some time ago, I purchased a Metod kitchen with matte foil fronts and use it in a heavily used household environment.
- Foil materials: The difference between matte and satin matte is mostly visual; functionally, the surfaces are the same.
- Plastic type: IKEA often uses PVC foil, which is very durable.
- Heat: There are limits, but the fronts are not heat-resistant like countertops. Hot pans or pots should never be placed directly on them, as this can cause discoloration or peeling.
My advice: Use a heat protection barrier and maintain the fronts properly, and they will easily last 10 years or more.

When choosing materials for kitchen cabinet fronts, it is important to balance the trade-offs between appearance, scratch resistance, and tactile feel.
- Foil fronts (PVC-coated) are the most durable against everyday scratches.
- Painted fronts enhance the visual quality but are more vulnerable to impact and scratches.
Heat is primarily a concern for countertops rather than cabinet fronts, as the latter are rarely exposed to high temperatures. Still, avoid direct contact with hot objects.
Summary:
For extra scratch resistance, a matte, PVC-coated foil front combined with a durable core material is recommended. Proper maintenance significantly extends the lifespan.

Hello!
I completely agree with
And regarding heat: of course, who would put hot pans directly on the front? đ Still, itâs better to use oven mitts one time too many than to damage the front. A small cleaning tip: use a mild soapy solution and a soft cloth â this will help the front last longer!

For more scratch-resistant fronts, I definitely recommend laminated surfaces. Just to be clear: there is no truly "scratch-proof" front, but laminated fronts come closest.
