Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone here has specific information or experience regarding custom designs for Ikea Platsa built-in cabinets?

In particular, I’m interested to know if Ikea or reliable partners offer special planning tools or services that allow you to design the Platsa systems with exact measurements as built-in cabinets. I am especially curious about how customization works for niche-like spaces, variable ceiling heights, or unusual room layouts.

Are there ready-made plans for such more complex built-in cabinets that can be adjusted afterward, or is it mainly a modular system?

It would also be great to hear about your experiences with installation or working with tradespeople when these cabinets are installed as a fixed part of wall niches or room corners.

Looking forward to your feedback and helpful tips!

Oh, great question! 😊 The Platsa series is basically designed to be very adaptable, almost like a furniture transformer. However, to my knowledge, Ikea does not offer a dedicated built-in wardrobe planner that directly addresses recesses or unusual ceiling heights. Most of it is done through the classic modular system where you combine different units.

If you really want something custom, it usually means planning it yourself or involving a third party or carpenter. That’s when a good screwdriver comes into play! 😄

Installation isn’t exactly straightforward if you’re integrating it permanently into the wall, especially with uneven walls or unusual angles. So I’d recommend working with precise measurements and maybe even your own sketches.

In conclusion: It’s flexible, yes, but for truly custom built-ins you often need some DIY skills or software beyond Ikea’s standard offerings.

Hello BAMILES68,

I would like to organize my response a bit; maybe this will help you find your way:

- The Ikea Platsa system is basically designed as a modular system intended for many different room sizes, but there is no official, specific “built-in wardrobe” planning that directly takes into account niche dimensions or sloped ceilings.

- You can definitely combine individual modules in a targeted way so that at least the width and height offer a custom solution. However, there are often limits in terms of depth, as the standard depth ranges from about 35 to 60 cm (14 to 24 inches), which is not ideal for all built-in situations.

- Tip: Be sure to use Ikea’s own planner to create a base design. After that, precise on-site measurements should be taken to account for small irregularities or slanted walls.

- For uneven surfaces or unusual wall shapes, it is often necessary to plan cabinets with some clearance and possibly add fillers or panels.

- If you want to have the cabinets professionally installed, I recommend contacting a local carpenter to see if they can make adjustments based on the Ikea plans. Professionals often have helpful advice that Ikea does not provide directly.

Regarding installation: Keep in mind that Platsa can be quite heavy, especially when equipped with doors and drawers. Wall mounting is essential for stability.

In summary: There are no official, individual plans directly from Ikea for built-in wardrobes using Platsa, but the modular system provides a good starting point. For greater precision, especially in challenging room situations, a combination of the Ikea planner, your own measurements, and potentially professional craftsmanship is helpful.

I hope this helps you!

Ikea offers only a modular system for Platsa, with no prefabricated installation plans. Custom solutions need to be created either by yourself or through third-party providers.
