Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the load limits for IKEA Hemnes drawers. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are official specifications or recommendations from IKEA about the maximum weight each drawer in the Hemnes series can hold.

I plan to use the drawers for heavier items, such as file folders or kitchen utensils. Therefore, it is important for me to know if the drawers can safely support a certain weight without damage or affecting their functionality.

Does anyone have experience with this or can point to sources that provide information about the maximum load capacity of these drawers? I am also interested in practical tips for care and use to ensure their durability.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for the detailed answers and the advice regarding the weight and maintenance, especially Wesley’s tip about applying oil to the rails.

Your assessments confirm my suspicion – I will limit the weight per drawer to a maximum of 15 kg (33 lbs) and distribute the load more evenly.

One last question: Does anyone have experience with the different versions of the Hemnes series? Could the load capacity vary for Hemnes dressers with greater depth or width, or are they all designed very similarly in terms of construction?

Good question! Yes, the load capacity can be somewhat better for larger models because, for example, sturdier drawer slides or full-extension drawer runners are used. However, the design of Hemnes remains quite consistent, so 15 kg (33 lbs) is still a good general guideline. For particularly heavy loads, it’s worthwhile to look for models with metal drawer runners.
