Hello everyone, recently I have been looking more closely at the IKEA Hemnes furniture range, especially wardrobes and dressers. I noticed that many users report various issues, such as material quality, stability, or assembly instructions. Therefore, my question is: Are there any known, recurring defects with IKEA Hemnes furniture? And if so, what are the best ways to fix or prevent these problems without having to file a complaint immediately? I am particularly interested in practical tips to improve durability.

It is important to tighten all screws properly and retighten the cross connectors.

Thanks for the tip, I also consider that essential. How often would you recommend retightening these screws? I did it on my first Hemnes cabinet after about 4 weeks, but haven’t checked systematically since then.

- Regularly lubricate and adjust drawer slides to prevent jamming

That sounds very helpful, but I wonder which product is best suited for lubricating without causing dust accumulation or stickiness? Does anyone have experience with this?

Retightening screws is advisable after the first one to two months, and then you can do it every six months. For drawer slides, special silicone sprays are very effective as they do not stick or attract dust.

I would like to add that the solid wood used in the Hemnes range is visually appealing but, due to its natural properties, it reacts to moisture and temperature fluctuations. This can lead to slight warping and cracking within a relatively short time, which some may consider defects. Possible solutions include:
- Placing the furniture in areas with stable indoor climate conditions, avoiding direct contact with radiators or damp exterior walls
- Applying breathable wood care oils or varnishes afterwards to seal the surface
- Using tension battens, if possible, to prevent warping in larger surfaces

About a year ago, I had a Hemnes dresser that made me a bit uncertain due to slight wobbling. Following the advice here, I tightened it up and installed a small additional bracket. That helped, but sometimes I still worry about whether it will remain stable. It would be nice if IKEA provided more official guidance on maintenance and durability to build confidence.

I agree with that. Especially since Hemnes is the first choice for many, it would be helpful if the manufacturer offered practical advice on care and handling. Nevertheless, I find the Hemnes range overall to be a fair product with a good price-performance ratio.

Thank you all for the many detailed and varied responses. I especially find the combination of practical tips (such as checking screws and maintaining guiding systems) and understanding material behavior very helpful for handling Hemnes furniture.

Could someone with personal experience share whether special reinforcements are advisable for heavily used items (e.g., dressers with a lot of weight or beds)? If so, which specific reinforcements and how are they best applied? That would be very helpful to me.
