Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a new wardrobe system for the children's room and came across the Ikea Platsa series because it is very modular and customizable. My question is whether the Platsa models include any child safety features, such as mechanisms to prevent the wardrobe from tipping over or to securely restrict access to certain areas for children.

I am specifically looking for models or additional parts that Ikea either offers directly or officially recommends to ensure safety for toddlers. It would be great if someone has experience or more detailed information on this topic.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Regarding child safety for Ikea Platsa, I can say that Ikea does not offer Platsa models with integrated, specific child safety features included in the product scope.

- The Platsa modules are generally designed to be stable and load-bearing, but child safety components, such as anti-tip brackets or special child locks for doors, need to be purchased and installed separately.
- Ikea typically offers universal anti-tip devices that can be mounted on cabinet systems, including Platsa. These prevent tipping by securing the furniture to the wall.
- To my knowledge, there are no standardized child locks or latches for drawers/doors specifically for Platsa, but external child safety devices (e.g., clamp or magnetic locks) can be used.

I always recommend implementing anti-tip measures as early as possible, especially for large and heavy furniture in children’s rooms. If you need more details on suitable safety devices, I’d be happy to provide further information.

Exactly, I can confirm that. The Platsa series is very flexible, but you really have to put the “safety” together yourself. The anti-tip devices are easy to install and prevent the worst case, which is the unit tipping over.

Regarding locks or door latches: unfortunately, you have to be a bit creative or rely on well-known brands that can make Platsa compatible with some DIY adjustments. But hey, it’s kind of like a DIY adventure, which is part of the fun! 😉

So, no worries – there are solutions, just not always ready-made from Ikea. Good luck with your setup!

Hello ardadra,

I would like to add that Ikea does recommend stabilizing elements like wall anchors for Platsa to specifically prevent tipping. However, these are not included with the furniture itself and need to be purchased and installed separately.

Regarding access control, many users point to external safety devices: either child-friendly magnetic locks that can be installed inside, or clamp locks that work without drilling.

In general, I always suggest considering safety on multiple levels:

- Secure wall anchoring to prevent tipping
- Door and drawer locks as needed
- Safe room setup (heavy items at the bottom, avoiding sharp edges)

Together, these measures provide the highest possible safety for children in the home. If you want to know exactly how to install these safety devices, I’m happy to help.
