Hello everyone,

I am currently considering getting an IKEA Platsa system for my home office but am unsure if there are furniture pieces with sliding doors available. My question is specifically: Are there any items within the PLATSA series from IKEA that come with sliding doors? I know that PLATSA is mainly flexible and modular, but so far I haven’t been able to find any clear sliding door components.

I’m looking for something space-saving where you don’t have to constantly open doors outward, as the room is somewhat tight. If there are no sliding doors directly from PLATSA, I would also appreciate tips on how to customize or add sliding doors myself.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

No, IKEA PLATSA does not offer furniture with sliding doors. The doors are standard hinged doors or drawers. However, there are individual modules that can be set up on legs to create some variety.

I can only agree with Greglau on this. PLATSA is very flexible, but IKEA does not actually offer sliding doors for this series.

However, if you’re creative, you can indeed work with custom-built sliding door systems. For example, by installing some tracks and using lightweight doors. Although this is more suitable for DIY enthusiasts. The modules are quite open to modifications due to their design anyway. Maybe that could be an option?

Regarding sliding doors for PLATSA:

IKEA only supplies this series with hinged or folding doors. Sliding doors are not officially offered. This is mainly due to the modular design and standard dimensions of the series.

If you want sliding doors, you either need to look at other series or modify the furniture yourself. For PLATSA, it is possible to install sliding doors using separate track systems, provided there is enough space for installation and the unit is stable enough.

Alternatively, combining other IKEA series with sliding doors (e.g., PAX) can be practical if space is limited and sliding doors are essential.

Thanks for your quick and clear answers so far!

I find that interesting. Does anyone here have experience with how stable such a retrofit is on PLATSA? And which materials or track systems are best suited for this? I want to avoid creating more problems than solutions with such a modification.

Also: Has anyone here ever converted a sliding door solution on other IKEA furniture and can share some tips?

Retrofitting sliding doors on PLATSA definitely requires careful planning and some carpentry skills.

- Stability depends entirely on how the sliding tracks are fastened. It is recommended to choose tracks with mounting plates that can be securely screwed into the back panel or side panels.
- Lightweight doors made of MDF or thin plywood are ideal to ensure smooth sliding performance.
- Make sure there is enough clearance between the furniture and adjacent walls or objects to accommodate the sliding tracks.

If you decide to go ahead, it’s a good idea to take precise measurements beforehand and possibly create temporary cardboard models for testing.

A simple approach I know: use sliding tracks from hardware stores or furniture suppliers designed for wardrobe sliding doors. These often work well combined with vertical MDF panels used as doors.

This is not a quick IKEA buy but a small carpentry project – yet definitely feasible.
