Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to buy furniture from the IKEA Platsa series and have a specific question I would like to discuss here: Are there any IKEA Platsa furniture pieces where the doors or drawers come standard with soft-close hinges?

I know that IKEA offers soft-close features in some series, but how is it specifically with Platsa? Are these hinges included, available as accessories, or do you need to rely on third-party products?

I want to avoid having to make any modifications afterwards when getting such a system, as I value quality and comfort.

Looking forward to your experiences and answers!

I understand that the soft-close feature is important to you. Especially for larger, taller furniture, a gentle closing feels more premium.

I’m also interested in retrofitting, but I would be happy if I could buy it right the first time, either factory-installed or at least with hinges offered by IKEA that fit better.

My advice: If this is important to you, I would test the Platsa doors in use at an IKEA store before buying, and also ask specifically which hinges they recommend. On-site, you often have the chance to see the current models and to discuss possible solutions with the staff.

Sometimes such conversations help to avoid frustration. I personally had the problem that the specified hinges didn’t fit the system at all, and I had to retrofit.

Soft-close functionality is not standard in PLATSA from IKEA.

Retrofit options are available; IKEA offers compatible hinge types in their range.

Hey!

I have PLATSA dressers at home and can say: soft-close really makes a difference!

Unfortunately, they don’t come standard, but with a bit of patience and the right hinges from IKEA (usually from the METOD/kitchen series) it works great. Just swap them out and enjoy!

Maybe give it a try, it’s definitely worth it!

Are there any experiences with which hinges IKEA offers for retrofitting?

Yes, a few details on this:

- IKEA mainly sells soft-close hinges under the METOD brand, which are designed for kitchen cabinets.
- These hinges do not always fit PLATSA mechanically, as the drilling points and door thicknesses differ.
- However, some users have success with hinges from the Grundtal series or models labeled as "tilt" soft-close hinges.
- Installation often requires drilling new holes or using adapters.

My recommendation: If you are handy, you can try adapting METOD hinges to PLATSA. Alternatively, third-party soft-close hinges with universal dimensions often work well.

What are the planned door dimensions and thicknesses for your project? That information could help provide better advice.
