Hello everyone,
I am currently working on a furnishing project where I plan to use the IKEA Platsa furniture series. I have a specific question that is crucial for the functionality of my new wall unit: Does IKEA offer any furniture from the PLATSA series with built-in power outlets?
It is important for me to know whether such furniture provides a seamless solution, meaning integrated or specially designed power strips to avoid cable clutter. Or are these pieces more traditional, without electrical integration, requiring external power strips to be used?
Perhaps someone here has experience with this or knows IKEA-specific recommendations regarding the PLATSA furniture and electrical connections. I look forward to your responses!

To answer your question more precisely: IKEA PLATSA is a modular furniture system designed primarily for flexible storage, but it does not come with built-in electrical outlets by default.
- There are no PLATSA components that include integrated power sockets.
- However, if you have some DIY skills, you can incorporate power strips behind or inside the furniture.
- IKEA does offer furniture like desks or TV units with cable management features, but there are no fixed power outlets in the PLATSA range.
If you are planning a DIY project, I recommend preparing openings before assembly to discreetly install power strips or cable ducts.
In short: There are no ready-made PLATSA furniture pieces with integrated electrical outlets, but with some planning, this can be easily added later.

Hey, thanks for the question, I think that’s really practical! 😃
I bought my PLATSA units without built-in outlets, but I added simple cable grommets afterwards. It works great and looks neat if done properly.
IKEA doesn’t sell PLATSA modules with integrated outlets, but with a bit of creativity, you can definitely make it work. Maybe they’ll offer that in the future – it would be really useful!

I would like to go into more detail here, as the topic of power supply with PLATSA requires some technical considerations.
PLATSA is a modular furniture system designed primarily for versatility and adaptability. However, IKEA does not include built-in power outlets with PLATSA. In my opinion, this is due to the many possible assembly variations: individual modules can be combined freely, which makes fixed electrical installations challenging.
The only options I see are:
- Retrofitting flat-profile power strips that can be placed in shelves or behind cabinet backs.
- Installing separate cable outlets or cable grommets, which are allowed within the PLATSA series, to guide cables.
- Using external designs, meaning separate furniture pieces with power outlets that visually coordinate with PLATSA.
Another option is using LED lighting with plug connections from IKEA, which can be connected via suitable power strips, although these also require external power supply.
I’d be interested to know how you plan to use the furniture? Is it more of a heating or entertainment cabinet, an office setup, or something else? Different power supply requirements arise from each, so then I can offer more specific advice if needed.

Because that results in different power supply requirements, and then I might be able to give more targeted advice. Thanks for the detailed feedback. My plan is to design a wall unit with PLATSA to create a media and entertainment area. This will include devices such as a TV, speakers, a gaming console, and a charging station for smartphones. Therefore, it would be ideal to have the power outlets hidden inside the furniture as much as possible to avoid visible cables.
I am also considering whether there are power outlet modules that can be easily integrated into shelves or back panels without major modifications—perhaps IKEA accessories or third-party products. I would be very grateful for any tips on this!
