IlhanparHello everyone,
I am currently reorganizing my bedroom and planning to install an IKEA Pax system. This made me wonder: are there IKEA Pax wardrobes or compatible accessories specifically designed for shoe storage?
I’m not looking for general shelves but rather customizable solutions that allow you to store shoes neatly—whether through special shoe racks, pull-out drawers, or other clever ideas.
Does anyone have experience with this or know of suitable IKEA products or third-party components that work well for shoes within the Pax system?
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hello Ilhanpar,
your question about whether IKEA PAX wardrobe systems offer special solutions for shoes is very valid, as shoes often require more than just a simple shelf.
IKEA does offer specific shoe shelves in the PAX range, such as angled or pull-out shoe racks. There are also shoe compartments with mesh fronts available, which are particularly suitable for ventilation.
Here’s a brief overview:
- Pull-out shoe shelves that are installed at an angle to prevent shoes from slipping
- Standard shelves with optional dividers or boxes that can be added
- Special shoe baskets and boxes from the accessory range
When planning, you can add these components directly in the IKEA PAX planner or discuss them with specialist staff in-store.
Tip: Measure your shoes carefully before purchasing. Many shoe shelves are designed for common shoe sizes, but taller boots often require different dimensions.
If you have a large shoe collection, I also recommend customizing the width and depth of the compartments accordingly.

I personally combined PAX with the classic shoe shelves but made sure the depth measurements were suitable, as the usual PAX shoe base is too shallow for some shoes, especially sports shoes and boots.
Additionally, I used small plastic boxes inside to keep the shoes organized and prevent unnecessary stacking.
Anyone who really wants to store many shoes neatly and carefully should opt for pull-out shelves, as they make access easier and provide better protection for the shoes.

I can well understand that finding the right solution for shoes in the PAX system is important. Shoes are often not only a practical matter but also an emotional one—especially if you have a larger collection or value organization.
I personally had the problem that my shoes quickly became disorganized there until I tried the special shoe racks. The difference in terms of clarity and space efficiency is truly noticeable—even if at first glance they seem like small details.
Maybe it also helps to organize the shoes by season or size. This can reduce stress when choosing in the morning.

Regarding specific shoe storage solutions within the PAX system: IKEA offers various accessories designed specifically for shoes, such as adjustable shelves or special shoe feet for improved ventilation.
When planning, it is important to consider the overall cabinet height, as some shoe compartments are angled, which affects storage capacity but improves shoe visibility.
It is also advisable to choose a cabinet depth that accommodates shoes with higher shafts (e.g., boots) comfortably.
For those who want more organizational levels, there are also pull-out drawers with inserts for shoes, although these are usually third-party accessories in the PAX system.
