I am currently planning my wardrobe using the IKEA PAX system and have a question I couldn’t find a clear answer to anywhere: Are there shelves or shelf boards for the IKEA PAX wardrobes that are significantly deeper than the standard cabinet depth? Specifically, I am looking for extra deep shelves because I want to store larger containers or bulkier items that don’t fit well on the usual shelves.

I understand that the PAX wardrobes come in different standard depths (e.g., 35 cm (14 inches), 58 cm (23 inches), 63 cm (25 inches)), but is it possible to get shelves that go beyond those depths? In other words, is there any accessory or special option for extra deep shelves beyond the typical sizes? Or are the shelves always designed to match the cabinet depth?

Interesting question, but honestly, I’m a bit skeptical: IKEA designs the PAX system based on modular standard dimensions. For logistical reasons, it’s quite unlikely that the shelves are significantly deeper than the cabinet depth.

You would then have to either retrofit or improvise, which somewhat contradicts the system’s principle. What speaks against simply choosing the deeper cabinets (e.g., 63 cm (25 inches)) if you need more depth? This way, you get almost the maximum storage capacity – expecting extra deep shelves would be, in my opinion, an unusual request.

- This is intentional so that the shelves fit securely into the designated notches and holes and can be held firmly in place.
- Deeper shelves would stick out, which would negatively affect installation, stability, and appearance.

If you really need more depth, I see two options:

- Choose a cabinet with a larger depth (for example, 63 cm (25 inches) from the start).
- Custom-made or DIY shelves that can be additionally secured, although this may affect warranty and stability.

In short: Officially, there are no “extra deep” shelves for PAX – they are always tied to the respective cabinet dimensions.

I recently had the same issue. The shallowest version of the PAX is 63cm (25 inches), and the shelves are designed exactly for that. There are no extra deep shelves available.

If you need more space, you either have to increase the cabinet depth or build your own shelves.
