Hello everyone, I am currently working on furnishing my bedroom, specifically with the Ikea Pax wardrobe system. Since I place great value on comfortable and functional lighting, I have a question: Are there any Ikea Pax solutions that already include integrated or pre-installed LED lights?

I understand that LEDs are usually added separately, but I would like to know if Ikea also offers Pax variants with built-in lighting units from the factory, in order to reduce effort and cable management.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge about this, perhaps even recommendations for specific products or modules within the Pax series? I look forward to your input!

Hey Peogi!

Good question, which often comes up when people think about the Pax wardrobe. Officially, Ikea Pax does not come with fully integrated LED lighting, meaning lights that are permanently built into the cabinet structure. However, there is the "Utrusta" lighting system, which was specially designed for Pax.

These are LED light strips or spotlights that can be easily installed inside the wardrobe – simple to attach, and the cables can be routed quite discreetly.

So, if you want LED lighting in your wardrobe, you can retrofit it very well with Utrusta. It’s not "fully integrated," but it is at least the best fitting solution directly from Ikea.

I would say: No complete wardrobe with built-in lighting, but almost as good!

Pax does not have models with built-in LEDs. You can buy Utrusta light strips and install them inside. Wiring is required, but it is manageable.

Hello Peogi,

to answer your question in more detail: Ikea does not actually sell Pax wardrobes that come factory-fitted with integrated LED lighting. This means you receive the frame, doors, and basic furniture, but lighting is a separate accessory.

The so-called "Utrusta" system consists of LED panels and strips designed to be easily installed inside the Pax wardrobe.

Please note:
- You need a power source near the wardrobe
- Installation is relatively simple but requires some basic electrical skills
- There are options with motion sensors that turn the light on automatically

If you are reasonably handy, this is a very good solution that looks neat and avoids visible cables when everything is installed properly.

If you want, I can gladly tell you more about the installation.

Hello Peogi,

I would like to systematically explain how to handle Ikea Pax wardrobes with LEDs – this might also help others.

1. Directly integrated LEDs in the Pax wardrobe? None available. Ikea generally delivers Pax wardrobes without built-in lighting.
2. The "Utrusta" lighting system: consists of various LED modules (light bars, spotlights) that you can mount inside the frame using screws or clips.
3. Voltage and connection: Usually 12 V DC, so you need a suitable power supply unit, which you can, for example, screw into the cabinet carcass or hide in the background.
4. Wiring: You can route the cables through holes inside the wardrobe, some of which Ikea has even pre-drilled.
5. Additional features: Motion sensors and adjustable light colors are currently not offered by Ikea, but third-party suppliers provide retrofit solutions.

To avoid errors, make sure not to exceed load limits, dimension the power supplies accordingly, and avoid pinching cables.

Conclusion: No “plug and play” Pax wardrobe with integrated LEDs, but with a bit of planning, you can create very attractive, clean lighting systems.

That’s exactly what I would question: Is there really no official version with integrated LEDs?

When I last researched this (about half a year ago), there were custom light strips from third-party suppliers that fit similarly to the original Utrusta and even supported smart lighting control.

Ikea could certainly offer complete solutions with integrated LEDs in the future, but that would likely be prominently advertised. Without official references, I remain skeptical whether “integrated” here really means factory-installed lighting within the cabinet, or if it’s more like surface-mounted and retrofitted.

I’m open to evidence if someone claims otherwise.
