Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into which cabinet handles work best with the doors of the IKEA Platsa system. Since Platsa is known for its simple and modular design, I think it’s important to choose handles that are both functional and visually fitting. I am looking for cabinet handles that match the clean design of the Platsa doors, while also being comfortable to touch and of durable quality.

I would prefer a recommendation with reasoning why a particular handle suits well—such as which material, shape, or finish works best. Maybe also tips on what to consider during installation or if there are alternative options that complement the Platsa system really well.

Does anyone have experience or concrete suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hey, great question! 😄

I installed PLATSA with a mix of matte black handles that are quite minimalist. Especially with these simple doors, I think matte finishes work really well because they don’t shine and give the furniture an elegant, understated look.

For the shape, I chose slim bar handles – they feel comfortable in the hand and look modern at the same time. The advantage is that you can grip them well even with gloves or wet fingers without slipping.

A quick tip: Be careful not to overtighten the screws, otherwise the door material (especially with the budget MDF fronts) can crack easily. Tighten them loosely, and everything fits smoothly.

I’m curious if anyone has tried other colors or shapes?

Good morning,

to thoroughly answer the question "Are there handles that particularly suit IKEA PLATSA doors?" it makes sense to first consider the technical and design characteristics of the PLATSA doors.

PLATSA doors are typically made from an MDF board with a foil-coated surface, which is relatively thin. This means that the holes for the handles need to be drilled carefully to avoid chipping. Additionally, the material is not suitable for very heavy or long handles that might exert too much leverage on the screws.

From a technical perspective, I recommend:
- Handles with two mounting holes spaced 128 mm (5 inches) or 96 mm (3.8 inches) apart, as these are standard sizes and practical for replacements.
- Materials such as aluminum or stainless steel, which offer good corrosion resistance and durability.
- Matte or satin finishes to help reduce the visibility of fingerprints.

In terms of design, my experience is that handles with a straight, simple design work best. Particularly, handle bars—long, narrow pull handles—complement the clean lines of the PLATSA doors very well. Classics like the IKEA "Voksen" handles or similar modular, minimalistic models are often the first choice here.

However, it greatly depends on personal taste and the overall room design. An interesting contrast can be achieved, for example, with brass or copper handles, which add a warm color effect without appearing too dominant.

A question for the creator—how do you use your PLATSA furniture? For instance, more in the kitchen, as a sideboard, or in the bedroom? That could additionally influence the choice of handles.

For an objective addition:

This characteristic also means that the chosen furniture handles should not have overly heavy or wide backplates that could cause pressure marks.

For PLATSA doors, handles made of aluminum or plastic with a chrome-plated finish are recommended, as they are lightweight yet durable.

- Classic are bar handles with a length between 128 mm and 160 mm (5 inches and 6 ¼ inches)
- Installation with two screws to ensure stability
- Avoid knob or single-hole handles, as they can cause airflow through the door

Additionally, IKEA offers some suitable handles for PLATSA, such as the "NORRSJÖN" series, which is precisely matched to the doors in terms of dimensions and material.

Therefore, my tip: furniture handles should be purchased according to the intended screw spacing to avoid installation problems.

Best regards.

Hello everyone,

I would like to add that besides the technical aspects, practical usability also plays an important role. For PLATSA doors, which are often used in living rooms or bedrooms, the handle is not only a design feature but also essential for comfortable operation.

These points have proven useful to me:
- Handles with an ergonomic shape that are easy to grip, especially important when children or elderly people use the furniture
- A surface that is easy to clean, such as powder-coated or brushed materials
- For white or light-colored PLATSA doors, white or silver handles look the cleanest, while black provides a strong contrast and a more modern appearance

It is also important to position the handle so there is enough clearance to open the door easily – with PLATSA’s thin door panel, this can be especially relevant to avoid pressure marks.

If anyone plans to use plastic handles, attention should be paid to their durability to prevent breakage from frequent use.

Here is a suggestion: some people combine handles with push-to-open systems – this can make doors appear completely handle-free, which is another interesting design approach.

I hope this is helpful!

I can confirm that.

Matte black handles offer a timeless look and work particularly well with the subtle colors of the PLATSA doors. However, it is important to ensure that the handle size is proportional to the door – too large can quickly appear bulky, while too small loses its impact.

In my opinion, handles made of brushed stainless steel or aluminum are a good choice because they are durable, relatively lightweight, and resistant to wear. Installation should be done with screws that are as short as possible or at least the correct length to avoid damaging the door material.

In summary, I recommend:
- clean, simple shapes
- matte finishes
- metal materials, preferably aluminum or stainless steel
- pay attention to the screw spacing (usually 128 mm (5 inches))

This way, the PLATSA doors achieve a visually calm, professional appearance with good functionality.

If more striking designs are preferred, handles with a brass finish could be an option, as long as the proportions are right.
