Hello everyone, I have recently been working extensively with the IKEA Platsa system and am wondering to what extent this relatively modular system can be modified according to individual preferences. Specifically, I am interested in whether and how DIY options exist to customize the carcasses, drawers, doors, or the panel dimensions themselves to fit specific room conditions or design wishes—preferably without professional cutting or carpentry skills. Are there, for example, proven methods to modify or combine Platsa components to create special storage solutions or visual variations? I am thinking of customizations that go beyond simple assembly. Looking forward to your experiences and tips!

Retrofitting damping mechanisms on open doors can also be done with some DIY skills to enhance quality. Such dampers would be interesting; could you explain in more detail how the installation works and which products you would recommend? I want to avoid inconsistencies and ensure a durable hold.

can you explain in more detail how the installation works and which products are recommended?Yes, gladly. The common dampers for Platsa are used to make the closing of the doors smoother. These usually consist of small gas dampers or buffer rollers, which are simply attached with screws or adhesive pads to the door frame or cabinet. The installation requires precise measuring so that they engage centrally when closing. At hardware stores, you can find typical "soft-close dampers" for furniture doors, which are usually priced in the low double digits. Make sure they are compatible with Platsa hinges, as some hinges have pre-drilled holes for dampers.
