Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a suitable chest of drawers and have been taking a closer look at the Ikea Brimnes series. What interests me is whether there are actually differences between the various Brimnes models. I mean differences in construction, material quality, or functionality – perhaps also differences in storage capacity or assembly. Some may have specific surface finishes, others different dimensions or additional features like drawers with dividers or doors.

Does anyone have experience with this or can specifically explain what sets the models apart? I am particularly interested in reliable details, as I don’t want to base my choice solely on design but also want to know if the models differ in load capacity, stability, and if there are any hidden differences inside. Thanks for any help!

The Brimnes variants mainly differ in size and storage capacity. The material and quality are similar across all models. The drawers all operate equally well.

It should be added that some Brimnes models have doors, while others only have drawers. This affects how they are used depending on your needs.

The Brimnes series actually offers several variations, which mainly differ in the following aspects:

- Dimensions: There are narrow dressers (e.g., 70cm (28 inches) wide) and wider versions (up to about 120cm (47 inches) wide).
- Construction: Some pieces combine drawers and doors, while others consist solely of drawers.
- Interior layout: Some drawers come with dividers, others do not.
- Surface finish: The base is usually white, but there are options with glass fronts or different color tones.

Regarding materials: All use MDF boards with a white foil finish, which keeps the durability at a similar level. Load capacity is generally around 10-15 kg (22-33 lbs) per drawer.

Conclusion: The differences are mostly functional and aesthetic, with no significant quality variations in the base models.

An overview can help to better understand the differences. I will briefly summarize the main points, also for those who want to assemble the furniture themselves:

- Dimensions: The width varies so you can choose the right dresser for the room.

- Front options: Doors, drawers, or a combination of both. Doors usually have a metal reinforcement behind the handle, while drawers have roller guides.

- Interior fittings: Some drawers include additional compartments, which can be either attachable or fixed. This is especially useful if you want to organize small items.

- Mounting and stability: Assembly is similar for all versions, but for larger models, wall mounting is recommended to prevent tipping.

- Material: MDF with a foil finish is standard; it protects against scratches but is not ideal for moisture exposure.

Careful review of the assembly instructions reveals details like the number of screws and the use of wall plugs, which can be a distinguishing factor in some versions.

Usually, the different options are designed for various living and usage situations, rather than due to differences in quality.

I have a Brimnes dresser with doors and one with drawers – both are very sturdy! The one with doors offers more concealed storage, perfect for stuff I don’t want on display. The drawers are very smooth to operate and well divided. A great mix overall, depending on what you need! It’s really satisfying to use the space smartly 🙂
