peoteHello everyone,
I am planning to assemble some Ikea Platsa shelving units soon, and I am particularly interested in any tips or methods to make the assembly more efficient and faster.
I feel that with these modular systems, a lot of time is often spent sorting and carefully fitting the pieces together. Are there any recommended tools, preparation steps, or a specific sequence that saves a lot of time? Tips on how to avoid unnecessary movements when screwing would also be great.
Hello, I appreciate any advice that can help make this task less time-consuming!

Hello, I appreciate any advice that can help make this task less time-consuming!
First, sort all the parts by type and screws. Do this on a large surface.
Use a cordless drill with adjustable torque. This way, everything loosens more easily, and you avoid damage from applying too much force.
Never assemble components completely at once; instead, do it step by step. This helps prevent mistakes and the need for rework.

Hello peote, your concern is very understandable, as PLATSA’s modular design can indeed become quite confusing.
I recommend carefully reading the instructions before starting construction and laying out all the parts completely, as lenren already mentioned.
It is also important to pay attention to using the correct screw sizes to avoid using the wrong ones – this makes assembly much easier later on.
Another tip, as you and lenren pointed out, is to sort the small parts into smaller containers or trays. This way you won’t lose any small components and can work more efficiently.
By the way, it also makes sense to place the panels on felt or a carpet during assembly to prevent scratches and allow for more stable screwing.
If you want to save time, try building the individual modules simultaneously if someone can assist you. Two or three pairs of hands are often very valuable with PLATSA.
Feel free to ask if you need more details about a specific step.

Do this over a large area. I would question that. A large area is certainly convenient, but in tight spaces it can lead to a lack of room. Sometimes less is more when you work focused in smaller sections and stay well organized.

If you want to save time, try to assemble the individual modules in parallel, if someone can help you. That seems like an important tip, as parallel work is crucial here. However, the question arises whether coordinating the helpers might actually require more effort.
I recommend creating a kind of schedule before starting that clearly defines who does what at each step. This is the only way to prevent the supposedly quick assembly from turning into chaos.
Another point is the quality of screws and anchors. Does anyone have experience whether Ikea has material differences that can be checked before purchase? That can also delay the assembly.
Oh yes, I love building PLATSA! 😄 My top tip: Sort and prepare all the parts in the morning right after unpacking them, before you even seriously start reading the instructions! This way, everything goes smoothly later on!
Also, always keep your cordless screwdriver fully charged and take breaks in between – this helps you stay focused while screwing and prevents frustration!
I also think that assembling the main frame completely first, then installing the doors and drawers, saves a lot of time and stress.
Good luck and, above all, have fun! You can do it!

Always keep your cordless screwdriver fully charged Absolutely essential! I once experienced a half-hour delay because I forgot this 😅.
Another thing I’d like to add: Always work patiently when assembling PLATSA, don’t rush. I know you want to finish quickly, but this helps avoid mistakes that could end up taking even more time.
In the past, I often screwed too fast and nothing fit properly afterward. Now I take my time and proceed step by step.
If you’re interested, I now prepare all modules with small stickers to immediately know which side is which. This saves incorrect assemblies.
