Hello everyone,
I recently bought an IKEA Besta sideboard with drawers, but I’m a bit disappointed by the noise level when opening and closing the drawers. In particular, the rattling or jerky sound bothers me quite a bit, especially when I use it late in the evening.
Do you have any tips or experience on how to make the drawers of the IKEA Besta quieter? I suspect it has something to do with the drawer slide system, but maybe there are also tricks like lubricants, dampers, or similar solutions that can be used. It’s important to me that the solution is practical and does not affect the functionality of the drawers.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hello,
regarding your issue with the IKEA BESTA drawers and the noise, I can offer some practical tips:
- First, check if the drawer slides are clean. Dust or debris can cause noise.
- It is recommended to treat the slides with a suitable lubricant; silicone spray is preferable because it doesn’t leave a sticky residue and does not attract dust.
- Some users have installed dampers, such as small rubber buffers or special soft-close mechanisms, which can be purchased at hardware stores or furniture accessory suppliers.
- Check if the drawers are properly installed and do not move with excessive resistance. Often, a slight adjustment of the slides improves smooth operation.
However, I advise against using oil-based lubricants, as they can become sticky over time. Also, consider the warranty conditions to ensure that modifications do not affect coverage.
If you have more detailed information about the model, I’d be happy to assist you further.

Hey!
I think it’s great that you’re looking for a way to make the BESTA drawers quieter! 😊 Here are my two cents:
- I used silicone spray, and it really helped a lot; the noise is significantly reduced.
- Additionally, I stuck small felt pads under the drawers – this also helps minimize the impact noise when closing.
- Sometimes, loading the drawer a bit lighter can reduce friction resistance and thus lower the noise.
Give it a try—often small changes make a big difference! Good luck! 🍀

- Step 1: Fully pull out the drawers and inspect the slides.
- Step 2: Clean the drawer slides with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, hairs, or small debris.
- Step 3: Spray silicone lubricant sparingly onto the drawer slides. Caution: Use only a small amount to avoid dripping onto other furniture parts or the floor.
- Step 4: Reinsert the drawer and open and close it several times to evenly distribute the lubricant.
If the drawers slam loudly, sometimes small rubber bumpers at the stops are missing or worn out. You can replace these with spare parts. This extends the drawer’s lifespan and reduces noise.
One last tip: Avoid grease or oils since they can become sticky on wood or metal slides. Silicone is much better suited.
I hope this helps!
