Hello everyone, I recently bought some furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series, specifically tables and cabinets with solid pine wood surfaces that are either untreated or white-stained. I am now looking for advice on the best way to care for these Hemnes wood surfaces to prevent scratches, discoloration, or drying out of the wood. I am especially interested in which cleaning products are recommended, whether waxes, oils, or special treatments should be used, and how often these applications should ideally be done to preserve the natural look and feel for as long as possible. Are there any practical everyday tips or proven home remedies that contribute to sustainable care? Thanks for your experiences and recommendations!

I recently cleaned my white Hemnes tables myself and do it like this: use neutral soap, rinse thoroughly, and dry by rubbing. I completely avoid using wax, as it doesn’t work well with the white surface. This way, the cabinets stay white and looking great!

I’m curious whether you treat the Hemnes furniture differently when the surface is white-stained compared to natural wood?

Exactly, the white stain is a semi-transparent protective layer that is somewhat more resistant to stains but also more sensitive to polishing agents. Therefore, I recommend only cleaning it without applying oils or waxes, as these can dull or stain the surface.

In addition to maintenance: a fine mist for moistening before waxing has helped me to ensure even distribution.

I would also recommend always choosing natural products without solvents when using waxes or oils. This is not only better for the furniture but also for the indoor air quality!

Finally, I recommend always allowing the furniture to dry thoroughly after maintenance or cleaning to prevent any residual moisture that could cause swelling or discoloration in the wood.
