Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a large IKEA PAX wardrobe system in my bedroom, but so far I only have experience with smaller furniture. Before I get started, I would like to know if anyone has practical tips or strategies on how to effectively approach assembling such large PAX wardrobes.

Specifically, I am interested in advice on the following points:
- Preparation: Are there any tools or aids that you would definitely recommend?
- Assembly order: Should I fully complete individual frames first and then connect them, or are there more efficient methods?
- Teamwork: Does it make sense to assemble it alone, or is it better to have at least two people?
- Stability and safety during assembly: How can I prevent parts from tipping over or getting damaged unintentionally?

I appreciate all tips, especially details that are often overlooked, as I want to end up with a sturdy and visually clean wardrobe solution. Thanks in advance!

It is best to use a cordless drill with a depth stop.
First, complete the cabinet carcass and tighten all joints securely.
Then, install the doors at the very end.
Working with two people is advisable, especially when aligning.

Hello lijelau,

I completely understand your caution; large PAX wardrobes can become challenging without proper planning. Here are some detailed tips that can really help during assembly:

1. Preparation:
- Tools: A cordless drill with adjustable torque and a depth stop is highly recommended to avoid damaging the wood.
- Lay out all parts in an organized way, and sort screws and fittings by type and size beforehand.
- Read the entire instruction manual before starting—even if it’s long, this helps avoid misunderstandings.

2. Assembly process:
- I suggest assembling each cabinet carcass completely first—that means attaching the sides, shelves, and back panels.
- Then, connect multiple carcasses together. Pay close attention to the connection methods (screws, dowels, etc.) because the larger the unit, the more important its stability becomes.

3. Teamwork:
- It’s worth working with at least two people, as large wardrobe sections are heavy, and extra hands really help when aligning pieces.

4. Safety and stability:
- Always assemble the carcasses with the back panel facing downwards, as this provides the best stability.
- During assembly, secure the cabinets with temporary aids such as wedges or clamps if necessary.
- Always anchor the wardrobes to the wall at the end—this is especially important for PAX wardrobe walls since the units are relatively tall.

5. Additional advice:
- After each step, check angles and alignment with a spirit level or protractor.
- Take your time even if it takes longer; this helps avoid rework.

I hope this already helps you. I’d be interested to know: exactly how large and how many elements are there? That could help make the advice even more specific.

I found that to be the most helpful approach when I built my PAX. Especially with large combinations, it can sometimes feel overwhelming.

What helped me back then was taking my time and proceeding step by step. When working with two people, it also helps to keep both calm because you motivate each other and spot potential mistakes early on.

That really shouldn’t be underestimated. At first, I was unsure about how stable the cabinet would be in the end, but with wall mounting, the whole thing became solid and stable.

I would also advise taking short breaks instead of rushing through. That way, you stay focused and make fewer mistakes. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
