Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install an IKEA Metod sink cabinet to upgrade my kitchen. I am wondering if there are any tips or best practices that can make the installation of the sink cabinet easier or help prevent common issues.

In particular, I am interested in how to ensure the installation is as secure and stable as possible, beyond the usual steps found in the instruction manual. Also, are there any specific recommendations regarding the integration of the sink and water connections to avoid future leaks or adjustments due to fitting problems?

I look forward to your experiences and advice that might go beyond the standard instructions!

Hey Leoklo, great question, especially since I just installed a Metod sink cabinet myself! 😊

My most important tip upfront: take your time and sort all the parts according to the instructions first. It sounds obvious, but being sloppy here will only cause delays and frustration later on!

Also, very important when integrating the water connections: make sure the cutouts for the pipe passages fit exactly, otherwise the pipes can easily get kinked or damaged. I always fine-tuned the openings a bit with a sharp craft knife, which makes handling much easier afterward!

One last point: the cabinet doors can easily hang crooked the first time. When you finish, use a spirit level and adjust the screws on the hinges properly—it not only looks better but also ensures long-term functionality.

Hang in there, it’s definitely worth it!

Hello Leoklo,

to approach the installation of an IKEA Metod sink cabinet clearly and systematically, here are some well-founded tips:

- Preparation: First, check whether the water connection is positioned exactly. Deviations require adjustments to the back of the cabinet to make space for the pipes.
- Assembly of the side panels: These should be perfectly perpendicular to each other. Use a combination square and a spirit level to ensure proper alignment.
- Base panel: Make sure the base panel is properly aligned and securely fastened to prevent deformation later, especially if you are installing a heavy sink.
- Connections: When fitting the sink into the cabinet, it is important to apply silicone seals carefully; too much silicone can hinder later adjustments, too little may cause leaks.

Overall, a step-by-step approach is recommended: first assemble the cabinet completely, then insert the sink, and finally connect the water fittings carefully. This helps to avoid rework or damage caused by improper installation.

I hope these points help you carry out the installation clearly and efficiently.

Hello Leoklo,

I like to go into detail to ensure your installation goes as smoothly as possible – especially with a Metod kitchen base cabinet there are a few technical details to keep in mind.

First, it is important to check the room dimensions and the position of the water pipes very precisely. Even a deviation of a few millimeters can become costly once the cabinet is already in place. I therefore recommend using flexible connectors for all water supply and drainage pipes before assembly, to make minor adjustments easier later on.

For the actual installation:
- The back panel should be adjusted on-site before the full assembly. Cutouts for pipes often need to be made afterward. It is best to do this with a hole saw or file to avoid rough tearing of the material.
- The base panel must be installed perfectly level. Any unevenness can be compensated with small shims or wedges (e.g., plastic ones).
- For the sink, I recommend sealing it with sealing tape (such as butyl rubber) before inserting it into the cabinet. This material remains flexible and prevents cracks in the silicone joint when there is movement.
- Installing the sink cabinet door and drawers requires precise adjustment. Coarse settings can be made roughly, but for the final step, the door hinges should be tightened with a torque wrench or at least with consistent manual force, otherwise the wood may warp and the doors will quickly become misaligned.

What type of sink do you want to install – rimless, undermount, or traditional top-mount? This may determine further details, which I would be happy to explain.

If you have exact measurements, I can also give you tips on the optimal cutout and permissible tolerances.

I wish you the best of luck and am available for any questions!
