Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: Are there any experiences with alternative handle systems for KALLAX doors?

I want to customize my KALLAX units individually and am looking for handles that are not only functional but also offer an aesthetic upgrade. The original handles are quite minimalist and don’t offer much variety. I’m especially interested to know if anyone has tried replacement handles that, for example, feel better in the hand, look more modern, or are easier to install.

It would also be important for me to know if such alternative handles affect the door closing or the stability, and whether there might be any issues with fitting dimensions. Perhaps someone has tips or specific product recommendations that fit well and make everyday use easier? Thanks in advance!

Hey dimo35, that’s a very precise and well-formulated question – I like it.

From my experience, the original handles on KALLAX units are quite simple, and many people look for alternatives. I once installed a set of minimalist leather pulls that are attached with screws. They give a nice, cozy feel and are comfortable to use. It’s important to measure the screw hole distances carefully before buying, as KALLAX fittings can vary slightly.

Regarding your question about stability: alternative handles do not significantly affect the door mechanism as long as the mounting is secure. One drawback of some alternatives can be that they don’t sit flush, which may create a small gap – usually not an issue visually.

If you want, I can also send you links to the handles I used.

Hello! 🙂

I recently completed a project with KALLAX and happened to find a set of stainless steel handles that give it a somewhat industrial look – pretty cool if you like that style. The handles feel comfortable to grip and make opening and closing really easy.

That’s true; installation was simple, and there are even options with magnetic attachment, which I initially found very convenient, though some care is needed when fitting them.

If you’re interested, I found the handles at a small online shop that also creates their own designs, so it’s not just standard mass-produced items. Good luck with your renovation – it’s definitely worth it!

Interesting question, dimo35. However, I would recommend considering not only the appearance and usability but also the durability and long-term stress on the door.

In this context, the distribution of force on the hinge plays an important role. Some cheaper handles that are unnecessarily large or made of less durable material can cause faster wear on the hinge due to their own weight or unfavorable leverage effects.

It should also be checked whether the mounting points of the alternative handles exactly match those of the KALLAX door; otherwise, modifications may be necessary that could weaken the door structure—especially with the thinner door models.

Regarding installation: I strongly recommend using the original drilling holes whenever possible and avoiding drilling new holes without reinforcement to prevent damaging the material.

A brief feedback from me: I simply used wooden furniture knobs that are commonly used in kitchens. They hold up very well, look good, and are affordable. Installation fits perfectly with the existing holes. No issues with functionality or stability. Recommendation: measure carefully and then order knobs that fit accordingly.
