Hello everyone, I am planning to design my kitchen using Ikea Besta cabinets but would like to customize them a bit more to suit my needs. Are there any proven DIY tips on how to modify Ikea Besta furniture specifically for kitchen use? For example, adjustments regarding stability, better storage organization, or integration of appliances? I am also interested in whether the surfaces can be made more durable for everyday kitchen use. I look forward to your experiences and ideas!

My absolute insider tip: Use power strips inside cabinets and route the cables through the wall. This way, you can hide small appliances like coffee makers or toasters directly inside – super practical and invisible. That sounds really clever, thanks! How do you ensure that the power cables are routed safely and look neat? Do you need to make special cutouts in the Besta cabinets, and how is ventilation handled when leaving appliances switched on?

How do you ensure that the electrical cables are installed safely and look neat?Great question!
I recommend routing the cables behind the Besta cabinets by cutting a cable pass-through using a router or a hole saw (about 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) in diameter), ideally in the lower back panel. This allows the cables to be safely and discreetly guided to the rear. Rubber grommets provide additional protection against damage to the cables.
Regarding ventilation: Make sure the devices receive enough airflow. Some Besta back panels can be removed or fitted with ventilation slots. Otherwise, small ventilation grilles can be integrated into the side panels to prevent heat buildup.
These measures ensure both safety and a clean appearance.
Additional notes on surface treatment for kitchen applications:
1. Sand all surfaces thoroughly before painting or matting to ensure proper adhesion.
2. Use clear lacquer or polyurethane varnish, specifically water-resistant and chemical-resistant.
3. Alternatively, there are special countertop coatings that adhere well to Besta fronts.
Common mistakes include applying the paint too thinly or not allowing sufficient drying time, which can later cause blistering or peeling.
One more tip: Make sure to seal edges multiple times and protect them from moisture.
