ᐅ Are there alternatives to the screws provided with Ikea BRIMNES?

erlend40Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my Ikea Brimnes furniture and was wondering if there are any alternative screws I can use instead of the ones provided. My question is: Are there any recommended replacement screws or possibly better types of screws than the original Ikea ones that can be used with the BRIMNES set without compromising stability or warranty? I am particularly interested in whether it would make sense to switch to something more durable or stronger, perhaps with regard to material quality or corrosion resistance. Tips on specific screw sizes or sources would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!
It should be noted that the original screws from Ikea are designed specifically for the connections of the BRIMNES. Replacement screws are possible as long as they have exactly the same dimensions and thread. Galvanized or stainless steel options are recommended due to their corrosion resistance, especially if the furniture will be placed in more humid environments.
For additional information: BRIMNES screws are usually metric with M4 or M5 threads, often with a pan head or Phillips drive. The length is frequently around 25–30 mm (1–1.2 inches), depending on the connection point. If you are looking for replacements, it is important to follow these specifications precisely, as deviations can make assembly more difficult or reduce stability. Stainless steel provides better corrosion resistance but is more expensive and can be harder to work with. Zinc-plated screws offer a good compromise. The strength grade is also important: furniture typically requires strength classes between 4.8 and 8.8 – here you should check the original specifications from Ikea to choose a suitable equivalent.

The quality of screws has often been important to me because I always think about safety. Especially with furniture like BRIMNES, which is regularly moved or loaded, it makes sense not to take any risks. If anyone is uncertain, I would recommend installing better screws once more rather than having problems later on.
