Hello everyone, I plan to assemble an Ikea Brimnes furniture piece but am unsure if the original Ikea assembly instructions are the only or best option. My question is: Are there any practical, proven alternatives to the original Ikea Brimnes assembly method that might be more stable, faster, or offer other advantages? I don’t just mean variations in the order of assembly, but actually different techniques, tools, or materials that users have successfully applied. It would be helpful if you could share your experiences or point out possible alternatives to make the assembly either more efficient or more durable.
I reinforced my Brimnes with additional metal brackets at the corner joints. This provides significantly more stability, especially if the furniture is moved frequently. You can replace the screws with stronger ones if you like, but be careful not to use screws that are too thick, as this can cause the MDF to split.

That provides significantly more stabilityExactly, metal brackets can be installed quickly and greatly enhance durability. Depending on the location, you can install the brackets on the inside, so they are not visible.
Another alternative I can recommend when stability is the top priority is using a combination of wooden dowels and wood glue. The bonding often increases strength more than expected, especially when the dowel positions are followed precisely.
Additionally, reinforcing the corners with metal brackets and using screws with a coarser thread allows the furniture to withstand significantly more load. It is important to observe the glue’s curing time and avoid applying any stress immediately after assembly.
This technique requires a bit more patience, but several DIY enthusiasts have confirmed that it greatly improves stability.
