Hello everyone, I assembled my Billy bookcase last weekend, and now the doors are not aligning perfectly. The hinges seem a bit loose, and either the doors don’t close flush or they hang slightly crooked. My question is: How can I properly adjust the hinges on a BILLY bookcase to get the doors perfectly aligned again? Is there a trick or detailed instructions on how to do this, especially for someone who doesn’t assemble furniture often? It would be great if you could help me with a step-by-step guide, maybe with tips on the screws and things to avoid. Thanks in advance!

Exactly, don’t force it while turning.

Absolutely, that’s an important point. If screws are tightened too much or turned too hard, you can easily damage the wood thread, which then becomes really tricky. Also, make sure the screws are the right size and not too long.

And once you get a feel for your shelving unit, fine-tuning it can actually be quite enjoyable.

I agree – adjusting it is a bit like a craft. The more experience you have, the better you can sense the subtle changes.

Bamar, could you please let us know if the doors are rubbing in several places or just one? And have you used the original BILLY screwdriver? Sometimes new screws can help if the old ones are already worn out.
