Hello everyone,
I am planning to modify my Ikea Pax wardrobe slightly and was wondering if there are different color options available for the Pax wardrobe doors. Specifically, I would like to know if Ikea offers these doors not only in standard colors like white or brown but also in other shades, perhaps even matte or glossy finishes, or if there are ways to change the door colors afterward without compromising the stability or the door mechanism.
It would be great if someone has experience with the available color variants or can offer tips on how to customize the doors individually without affecting their appearance or functionality.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

I’m planning to modify my Ikea Pax wardrobe a bit and was wondering if there are different color options available for the Pax wardrobe doors. That’s a good starting question, and I can share some insights on this.
Basically, Ikea has offered various fronts for the Pax series for quite some time, including wardrobe doors in multiple colors and materials. The standard colors typically include white (often available in matte or high gloss), different wood finishes (such as oak or birch), and darker shades like anthracite or black.
Additionally, there are special models with glass or mirror doors that can be playfully combined with colored accents. However, keep in mind that availability may vary depending on the sales region and model year. Ikea also tends to rotate color options, so older or less common colors are often not permanently part of the range.
If you plan to paint or apply vinyl wrap to the doors yourself, it’s important to properly prepare the surface. Pax doors are usually coated with melamine or paint, which requires thorough cleaning and possibly light sanding to ensure good adhesion of paint or vinyl. You also need to pay attention to the hinges and handle positions during modification so that everything functions smoothly afterward.
In short: yes, there are several color options, but the selection strongly depends on the specific model and Ikea’s current offerings at any given time.
I’d be interested to know which visual style you are aiming for and whether you are looking for standard colors or more unusual design solutions?

if there are different color options for Pax wardrobe doorsHey,
yes, there actually are! Ikea offers more choices than you might expect at first glance. White is of course the classic, but you can also get doors in colors like anthracite or various wood finishes.
What I find cool is that you can also play around with handleless doors or glass doors with frames in different colors.
And if that’s not enough, try using films or self-adhesive vinyls to easily customize the wardrobe yourself. The thing is, over time Ikea regularly introduces new colors. Sometimes there are even limited editions.
So, in short – yes, there’s more than just the “standard white.” Good luck with the makeover, it’s sure to look great!
Ikea offers several color options for Pax doors: white, dark brown, and anthracite are standard. There are also mirrored doors and glass variants. For more personalized colors, you can apply vinyl wraps or paint the doors yourself, but Ikea does not provide a wide range of colors.

If you plan to paint or apply a film to the doors yourself, it is essential to properly prepare the material. This is a crucial point. It is often assumed that IKEA furniture is easy to work with – but the truth is that melamine or painted surfaces can cause problems. Without proper sanding and priming, paint often won’t adhere well or will appear uneven.

You can also experiment with handleless doors or glass doors with frames in different colors. That’s true, but compatibility is an important consideration here. Not every door fits every frame, and especially with older Pax systems, dimensional differences can occur that make replacements difficult.
I also wonder if anyone has tested the long-term stability of doors after color changes – for example, after painting or applying adhesive films. Often, hinges suffer or doors no longer close properly. The fact that IKEA doesn’t offer an extensive color range is probably also a matter of quality control and logistics. The more variants there are, the more complex production and spare parts management becomes.
Can anyone share their experience regarding how durable and functional doors remain after changing their color?
