BoravinHello everyone,
I am about to purchase a large IKEA Pax wardrobe and want to plan the best approach for assembling it. My question is directed to anyone who has experience assembling one of these wardrobes or knows how many people are ideally needed to build a larger model quickly and without stress.
Specifically, I am interested in: How many people are recommended to assemble a large IKEA Pax wardrobe? I am considering factors such as handling the heavy parts, aligning and assembling the frames and doors, as well as any potential risks involved if assembling alone or with just two people.
Any tips or experience would be very helpful, especially if you can provide details about the model or room size. Thanks in advance!

How many people are recommended to assemble a large IKEA Pax wardrobe?Great question! 😊 I would definitely recommend having at least two people, especially for the larger models. Doing it alone can be quite challenging because the parts are not only heavy but also quite awkward to handle.
We assembled ours with four people, and it was really enjoyable! The work goes faster, and you can help each other out, especially when it comes to aligning the doors and panels. Plus, safety comes first—no one should risk injury while carrying or drilling. So, get some help—it’s well worth it! 🎉
From my experience, assembling a large IKEA Pax wardrobe is usually best done with two to three people.
- Two people can usually manage if they work well together and there is enough space in the room.
- Three are especially helpful with difficult room layouts or particularly heavy parts.
Another important factor is having the right tools and preparation: If everything is properly sorted and ready, it significantly reduces assembly time. I do not recommend doing it alone – it becomes unnecessarily complicated and increases the risk of mistakes or damage.
This is particularly true for tall or double-door models, where you should not attempt the lifting alone.

The large Pax wardrobe sometimes comes with frames up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) high, and doors that are not only wide but also quite heavy. In my view, assembling it alone is nearly impossible. Even if you manage, the following points are critical:
- Checking the level during assembly
- Holding the doors while fastening to avoid unwanted tension and misalignment
- Safety when handling the large doors, which can easily slip out of your hands
Therefore, I recommend at least two people, ideally three if you have little experience. If possible, there should be at least one additional person helping with positioning the doors and the final assembly.
So my question to Boravin: which model and room conditions do you have planned? That would help tailor the recommendation more precisely.

So my question to Boravin: Which model and what room dimensions have you planned? Thanks for asking! It will be a large corner Pax model, consisting of two units measuring 100 cm (40 inches) and 50 cm (20 inches) wide, and 236 cm (93 inches) high. The room is 3.5 m (11.5 ft) wide and 4 m (13 ft) long, with clear access to the walls, so fortunately no tight spots. The doors are standard, but several shelves and drawers will be installed, which will likely make the assembly somewhat more complex.
I hope this gives you a better basis for advice. I’m curious to hear your thoughts!

For a corner unit like that, it’s really helpful to have at least two people involved in the assembly. The modules need to be positioned side by side and precisely aligned so that the doors close properly and the cabinet stands stable. While one person holds the modules, the other can secure the connections.
And with that size, a third set of hands can be invaluable when attaching the top and side panels.
In summary: at least two, preferably three people for a smooth and safe assembly. Good luck – it will definitely turn out great!
