Hello everyone,

I am moving into a rental apartment soon and am looking for an IKEA Pax wardrobe that can be assembled without drilling. Due to rental conditions, drilling holes in the walls is strictly prohibited, so I am searching for suitable models or alternatives that are stable yet easy to assemble and disassemble.

Which Pax models are especially suitable for rental apartments where wall mounting is not allowed? Are there specific versions or accessories to securely stabilize the wardrobe without drilling? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations, especially regarding stability and ease of handling without drilling.

Pax models with feet are best suited. These wardrobes do not require wall anchoring if assembled correctly. Make sure to choose wider models, as they provide more stability.

For added safety, you can place non-slip pads under the feet.

Yeah, great topic! I have the Pax wardrobe myself with a width of 100 cm (40 inches) and adjustable feet – it stands rock solid without any drilling! 😊 The important thing is to level the floor very accurately and adjust the feet properly. This way, you can avoid trouble with your landlord and still have a great wardrobe.

Go for it, it will be fantastic!

For clarification: IKEA generally offers the Pax wardrobe with a recommendation for wall anchoring, but when using the integrated base legs, no drilling is necessary. Stability largely depends on the width and number of the base legs.

Models with a depth of 50cm (20 inches) and widths of 100cm (39 inches) or 150cm (59 inches) without doors tend to be more stable when properly aligned.

An alternative securing method could be the use of non-slip pads or hook-and-loop tape between the furniture and the floor, especially on delicate flooring.

That reassures me a bit since I’m also concerned about potential damage in rental apartments. I’m especially interested in how the wardrobe holds up under heavier use, for example when children shake it or you load it with a lot of clothes. Does anyone have experience with this?

Stability without wall mounting is best for smaller models like 50cm x 50cm (20 inches x 20 inches). For wider cabinets from 75cm (30 inches) in width, you should pay attention to the base feet and carefully check the floor. For children's rooms, I always recommend wall mounting or another securing solution.
