Hello everyone!

I recently bought some IKEA Besta furniture to redesign my living room. The problem is that the floor in the room is quite uneven. Due to small irregularities, the furniture wobbles slightly or doesn’t stand stable, which is obviously not ideal.

My question is: What is the best way to level and stabilize IKEA Besta furniture on an uneven floor? Are there any special techniques, products, or tips you would recommend to securely place the furniture as straight as possible on such floors without wobbling or shifting?

I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Ah, the classic battle against uneven floors – I know that all too well! 😄

A very simple and affordable trick is to use small foam or felt pads that you stick under the furniture legs. You can find these in different thicknesses to help balance out the unevenness. For larger differences, there are also adjustable furniture feet with threaded stems that you can screw in or out to fine-tune the height on each corner.

This way, you can make small adjustments anywhere. If you want even more stability, non-slip mats or thin rubber pads under the furniture can prevent it from sliding when you put weight on it or bump into it.

Sometimes it’s the little helpers that make all the difference!

That is correct. IKEA itself does not offer adjustable feet specifically for Besta, but you can purchase replacement furniture feet that are height-adjustable.

Alternatively, it is common to use wooden or plastic shims to address height differences. These shims are simply placed under the corresponding furniture legs to level the piece. It is important that the shims are sturdy and do not slip, so they should ideally be non-slip or fixed with adhesive.

Another option is to secure the furniture to the wall with a solid back panel, which at least limits lateral movement, even if the front still experiences slight unevenness.

I would recommend first using a spirit level to check how significant the unevenness really is.
Then:
- Buy adjustable furniture feet
- Fit and place wooden or plastic wedges underneath
- Use rubber pads to prevent slipping

This way, you can secure the furniture properly.

To be honest, IKEA furniture on an uneven floor? That’s almost a contradiction in terms. The Besta series is designed for flat surfaces – so things will wobble if the floor isn’t level.

If you ask me, the most lasting solution is to first improve the floor or use a leveling compound. Shims can work as a temporary fix but don’t solve the root problem and may become unstable over time or leave unsightly gaps.

I understand that this isn’t always possible, but ensuring furniture stability sometimes requires addressing the floor itself.

In addition to the options mentioned:

- Use screw-in furniture feet
- Use furniture pads of varying thicknesses

These methods allow you to selectively raise individual furniture legs until the piece of furniture stands firmly.
