Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of baseboards for my Ikea Metod kitchen system and want to ensure they are mounted absolutely stable and durable. My question is: What is the most secure way to attach Ikea Metod baseboards to the wall and floor?
I am especially interested in:
- Which fastening methods are best suited (e.g., screws, wall plugs, adhesive)?
- Are there any special tips or tricks for preparing the wall and baseboard to ensure everything holds firmly?
- How should one approach different wall materials (e.g., drywall vs. concrete)?
- Is there a specific installation sequence to follow to avoid problems later on?
I have basic DIY skills and am open to detailed explanations and any kind of assistance. Thanks in advance!

For a secure attachment to concrete or masonry, it is best to use anchors and appropriate screws. For drywall panels, I recommend special drywall anchors or cavity anchors.
Pre-drill the baseboard, insert the anchors, then screw it in. Adhesive can be used as a supplement but is not a substitute for screws.

Hello Manuelti,
I’m happy to provide you with a step-by-step guide for securely installing the Ikea Metod baseboards:
1. Wall preparation: The surface must be clean, dry, and even. Remove any loose wallpaper or plaster beforehand.
2. Choosing the fasteners: Use nylon anchors with screws for concrete or brick walls, and special cavity anchors for drywall.
3. Measuring and marking: Mark the drilling spots along the lower edge of your baseboard at intervals of about 30cm (12 inches).
4. Pre-drilling: Drill holes at the marked points in the wall, using the correct drill bit size for your anchors.
5. Insert anchors and screw in: Push in the anchors, position the baseboard, and secure it with screws.
6. For extra support, you can use mounting adhesive as a supplement—but screws are essential.
A common mistake is relying only on adhesive or not drilling into load-bearing parts of the wall. Also, the baseboard should be properly aligned to avoid it hanging crooked or loose.
If you have different wall materials, I always recommend using the appropriate types of anchors. The baseboard should always be installed last, once the floor is finished, to compensate for any unevenness.
I hope this helps you!

For a secure fix to concrete or masonry, it is best to use anchors and matching screws. This advice is correct and essential. To add:
- For Ikea Metod baseboards, I recommend screws with a countersunk head and a metric thread of about 4mm (0.16 inches) diameter.
- The holes in the baseboard should be pre-drilled to avoid material cracking.
- For drywall or hollow walls, make sure to use appropriate hollow wall anchors or toggle bolts that expand behind the panel.
- If you want a visually flawless finish, choose screws matching the baseboard’s color and use cover caps.
A combination of screws and construction adhesive increases stability but is not strictly necessary if the anchors are properly installed.
Additionally, ensure that the baseboards are mounted slightly suspended above the floor after installation to prevent dirt and moisture issues.

I would like to add that although the Ikea Metod baseboards are of good quality, they can have some weaknesses in attachment if the assembly instructions are not followed carefully.
- Measuring is key: Be sure to check the height carefully, as the baseboard should fit precisely at the feet of the kitchen base cabinets.
- If the wall is uneven, you can use thin shims behind the baseboard to ensure it sits flush and stable.
- It can also help to partially screw in the baseboard first, then fully align it before tightening all the screws.
- When mounting on tiles, keep in mind the harder surface – appropriate tile drill bits and anchors are necessary.
If you like, I can provide more details regarding specific tools and types of anchors that have proven effective.
