Hello everyone, I recently purchased an Ikea Pax wardrobe with sliding doors and am now facing the challenge of aligning the doors perfectly. Specifically, I want to ensure even gaps between the doors, properly adjust the sliding tracks, and avoid any rubbing or irregular movement. The Ikea instructions are helpful but not entirely clear to me, especially when it comes to fine-tuning. Does anyone have experience and tips on how to align the sliding doors of the Ikea Pax wardrobe optimally so they don’t stick or warp? Thanks in advance!

Simply start by placing the doors into the upper tracks, then adjust the rollers at the bottom to ensure the doors are level. Use the small screws on the rollers for this. Afterward, check if the doors slide smoothly. If not, readjust as needed.

Hey, I adjusted my Pax wardrobe like this: I use a small measuring tape to check for slight deviations in the doors, so you can align them with millimeter precision. And hey, a bit of patience is part of it – almost like yoga for the doors 😉. It’s important that the sliding tracks are clean, as this makes the doors glide much more smoothly!

I wonder if the Ikea instructions really cover all possible sources of error. For example, it is often overlooked that the frames of the Pax wardrobe themselves must be straight and level. If this is not the case, even the best adjustment of the sliding doors won’t help. Has anyone here experienced whether uneven walls affect the alignment of the doors? It would also be interesting to know how to compensate for this – perhaps with adjustments to the vertical tracks?

Regarding Tinaneo’s question: Yes, uneven walls or a sloping floor can significantly affect the alignment. My advice is to use a spirit level to align the cabinet precisely and, if necessary, compensate with small shims under the feet. Only then should you adjust the sliding doors. For adjusting the doors themselves, I recommend the following procedure:
- First, check that the top track is properly installed.
- Then secure the upper rollers.
- Adjust the lower rollers until the doors are parallel.
- Finally, test the doors to ensure they slide smoothly.
This systematic approach will save you many readjustments later.

That’s exactly my impression. In my opinion, IKEA assumes the cabinet is already perfectly positioned. I’m going to double-check everything with a spirit level first to make sure it’s exactly level, and use shims if necessary. Thanks for the tip!

I pay attention to slight misalignments of the doors using a small tape measure, so you can adjust the doors to the nearest millimeter.
What spacing between the doors is ideal? IKEA mentions about 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 inches) of overlap, but that seems hard to achieve sometimes depending on how the cabinet is aligned.
