Hello everyone, I recently purchased an Ikea Pax wardrobe with sliding doors and am now facing the challenge of aligning the doors perfectly. Specifically, I want to ensure even gaps between the doors, properly adjust the sliding tracks, and avoid any rubbing or irregular movement. The Ikea instructions are helpful but not entirely clear to me, especially when it comes to fine-tuning. Does anyone have experience and tips on how to align the sliding doors of the Ikea Pax wardrobe optimally so they don’t stick or warp? Thanks in advance!

I know the feeling when the doors don’t slide smoothly and you feel like you have to force them shut – please don’t! 😅
My advice: Adjust the rollers gradually in small steps, and open and close the door several times in between. You’ll quickly notice when it’s properly balanced. Oh, and be sure to keep all tracks and rollers clean – dust and crumbs can really interfere with the movement. Good luck!

If the doors scrape or stick, a more precise alignment is often less helpful than checking the tracks and rollers themselves. If these are damaged or bent, it can cause problems. Clean them and, if necessary, lubricate with some silicone spray. If there is severe scraping, you can also check whether the doors are properly seated in the upper sliding tracks.

What are the ideal gaps between the doors? IKEA mentions about 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 inches) overlap, but that seems hard to maintain sometimes depending on how the cabinet is aligned.

Exactly, the gap is important, but you often get more stability when the doors slightly overlap. With my Pax, I always aimed for about 3 mm (0.12 inches), which ensures even closing and no gaps. When adjusting, it helps to slightly turn the screws on the bottom rollers while gently pushing the doors together. This way, you can fine-tune the fit by feel.
