ᐅ How can I stabilize IKEA HEMNES beds on uneven or shaky floors?

KellinHello everyone,
I have a relatively new IKEA Hemnes bed and I’m facing the problem that it wobbles quite a bit on my wooden floor. It’s only slight, but after a while it gets annoying, especially when you move. I suspect the floor is not completely even, which is common with older wooden floorboards.
My specific question is: How can I effectively stabilize an IKEA Hemnes bed if the floor is uneven and the bed wobbles as a result? Are there proven methods or special products you would recommend? I’m mainly interested in solutions that don’t require major changes to the floor or the bed.
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

this is a common issue, especially with wooden floors that may settle over time or have slight irregularities. Basically, there are several approaches:
- One option is to place furniture felt pads or rubber pads under the bed legs to compensate for minor unevenness. It’s best to use pads of different thicknesses depending on what is needed.
- Another option is to replace the legs with adjustable furniture glides, if possible. This allows you to individually adjust how much each leg is raised.
- If the bed wobbles because it is not fully tightened, it’s worth checking all screws and tightening them or supplementing with wood glue if necessary.
- A more permanent solution can sometimes be to insert small wooden wedges under the legs. You can cut these from hardwood so they fit exactly.
If you want, I can also explain step-by-step how to do this with the wedges. I hope this helps you for now!

If you use wooden wedges, make sure they are not too thick, so the frame does not sit at an angle. That is a very good point. The main goal is to stabilize the frame on a level horizontal surface. If the frame is tilted, it may reduce wobbling but can negatively affect comfort.
Anyone with some basic DIY skills should definitely cut the wedges to precise measurements and also glue or fix them in place with silicone to prevent slipping.
Thanks in advance for the answers and the tips regarding the wedges and felt pads.
I will definitely try that, especially since I don’t want to tear up the floor extensively.
@Jeanbar: A step-by-step guide for the wedges would be great, if that’s not a problem for you! After that, I’ll be able to better assess whether I can do it myself.
